Congrats on your first reload Bob, I reload for a few calibers, and it really does save a lot of money! plus, you always have a bazillion rounds laying around.

| Brother Bob, Congratulations on joining the band of handloading brothers; I understand your concerns and caution about firing your first reloads. Caution is GOOD! Handloading can be fraught with many dangers, and it is usually the older experienced guys (like myself) who get caught out. Familiarity breeding contempt & all that. A few rules to learn & remember. (I'm sure others will add to these) 1. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER PERSON'S RELOADS IN YOUR FIREARM!What may be "safe" in theirs might not be safe in yours. Factory Reloads/remanufactured ammo should be OK but not the guys round the corner or a buddy's buddy! 2. Wear safety glasses when Reloading. You've probably only got two eyes and may wish to keep them. 3. Cleanliness is next to godliness. Keep your loading bench tidy, and clean up spilled powder asap. 4. Only one type of powder on the bench at one time! Sounds obvious doesn't it??? 5. Do not try & tumble clean live rounds!!! I can tell a long story about this one. 6. If you are testing a new reload, check your fired cases for damage or overpressure. If you do not know how to recognize the signs of overpressure get help before you fire your reloads. 7. If something doesn’t “feel right” or sound right, then it probably isn’t right and you should check things out. Not the first time someone has had a few rounds stuck in a barrel! GOOD Luck and stay safe. |

Thanks for all the input and support. Maybe in a year or so I'll be able to contribute some wisdom to the forum instead of borrowing yours.

Reloading isn't usually dangerous until about your 3rd session. Up till that point you are double checking and making certian of every action you make. Once you think you have it down pat, you will do something which will back you up a notch or two. Most of the time mistakes never make it to the shooting range. I know lots of reloaders, and it is very rare indeed that someone makes a mistake and shows up to shoot it. We have not had an injury yet, a few blown out cases, mostly mis-fires.

I'll place my rifle in my Caldwell Lead Sled and tie some kite string to the trigger. Then I'll back off about 50 ft. and pull the kite string! ..... Is it natural to feel this way with your first reload? LOL! | I could be that you aren't really cut out for the reloading hobby. |
