Round bullets vs flat nose

I recently was talking to an ex- blackwater person and he stated that a flat nosed bullet is mote effective in stopping an intruder than a round nosed as it imparts a more energy transfer.

Any comments??

If you have to use a full metal jacket round then yes. other wise a hollow point is the way to go.

The flatnose, not being as aerodynamic releases more kenetic energy because it ts harder for it to penetrate the body.given the same fps at the muzzle the round nose will carry more fps down range giving it more energy to disperse. So the range would be a factor. The flatnose would distribute more energy at short ranges because of the resistance, and the roundnose would distribute more energy at longer ranges because it is going faster and has more energy to distribute. sam.

+1 to sam.

Revolver shooters have known for years that a flat nose bullet (SWC or full WC) has better stopping power than a round nose bullet.

Add a hollowpoint to the SWC and you're in business.

Almost always use high performance hollowpoints for self-defense.

the .40 was created mainly for law enforcement request a good round that will take down an aggresor but not over penatrate and hit some kid down the road on his bike. also most law enforcement officers that are shot are shot by there own weapon the .40 will not penatrate kevlar under most circustances another plus for LEO. That is why most agency are now using that round.
