S&W model 1000

I just bought a S&W 1000 12 ga. manufactured in the 80's as my first gun. After I bought it I went home and found out there isn't a lot of info on them online. Wondering if they make a decent shotgun or if I got taken. I understand they were made in Japan and this one is modified for 2 3/4 shot only. Am I screwed or will I be OK? Anythings helps, thanks!

I was working for a friend who owned a gun shop when they first came out. They were a well made gun, we sold quit a few and had no complaints. I still see one now and then at the Gun Club I belong to. Usually being used for Skeet. I believe you are refering to yours being chambered for 2 3/4 shells only. This in no way refers to the shot size you may use, however do not use steel shot of any size. It's a decent gun. Hope this helps a bit....

The S&W 1000 12ga.shotgun is a nice well made gun that will probably give you a lifetime of shooting pleasure. The 2&3/4 is the chamber length which means that it will shoot the 2&3/4 inch shells but not the 3 inch Magnums. Hope this is some help. Good shooting.

I owned 3 and currently have 2 a 20guage and 12 guage. Awesome gun, Semi-auto shotgun was getting very popular in the 70s and early 80s. S&W and Mossberg do not have semi-auto of their own and they contracted a Japanese company to manuafacture for them. You could also get parts for them under the name Mossberg 1000, the same gun with different name. I guessed it is like "Chevy Luv and the Isuzu pickup" during the 80s.

It is gas operated, which mean you'll have to clean it more often then the spring type. The action is so smooth as well compared to my Browning A5, after all day for doves my poor shoulder is not bruised up like my A5.

hopes this help, somebody correct me if I am wrong..

I have both. 2 3/4 and 3 inch. Bought them in 80's. That 2 3/4 was a nice fairly light, carry all day gun. Bought the 3 in for waterfowl so I have'nt shot it since we switched to steel shot.

Safe to use Steel Shot in S&W 1000 Super 12?

I have a 12 ga. S&W 1000 Super 12 with a Multi-Choke barrel and a factory full choke tube installed. Can I shoot 3" magnum steel shot safely or do I need to get a special choke tube for steel?
Thanks

I sold my S&W 1000 today hated to see it go but I needed the cash, they are made by Howa and are great guns just make sure that the gas port is lined up after cleaning other wise it won't eject, the shell stop that keeps you from loading three in the tube and one in the pipe is the pin closest to the reciver in the magazine tube. If you have any problems with disassebly numrich gun parts has exploded veiw.

Dave2shot:

You have to read whats label said on the side of the barrel. I know you could safly shoot steel shot with modified or improved chokes. I believe the S&W super 1000 is newer gun, cause I've seen it on their website. I could be wrong..
