I purchased a browning camper a few months back and absolutely love it. Accurate son of a gun. Anyways, can I load magnum ammo in it or do I have to use regular 22lr ammo? If so, what is the best? (I just bought some remington 22 stingers.)
lorcin25: Sir; NO. It is designed for the .22 long rifle. Mags probably wont fit; and do not try and force.

A gun chambered for the .22 long rifle will not chamber
a .22 mag. Do not attempt to force this situation under
any circumstance. It is dangerous.
A gun, such as a revolver, chambered for a .22 mag will
accept a .22 long rifle yet you must realize it is not
rifled (rate of twist of rifling in the bore) to make the .22 long
rifle hit with a high degree of accuracy.
Overall, use common sense. If you gun is chambered and
designed for a .22 long rifle stick with .22 long rifle. If you
gun is chambered and designed for a .22 mag stick with the
.22 mag. It is the safe way to enjoy accurate shooting.
If you want to use the .22 Magnum, you will need a revolver with two cylinders - one for .22LR and one for .22 Magnum. It will be more accurate with one or the other, depending on the bore and rifling.
There have been a few semi-auto pistols made for the .22 magnum, but none (IIRC) currently produced. Even then, they DID NOT chamber .22 LR!

True, but what Big Dog meant was that if you have a revolver with both a .22LR and .22mag cylinder, it will be more accurate with one or the other because the bore will be the best size for one type of round.

I have to agree with most on this matter 22lr and 22mag are 2 seperate cartridges and can't be inter-changed the only thing common with these 2 rounds is that the bullet diameter are the same.

Here we go again! Misinformation and fabrication!A firearm that handles either .22mag or .22lr or both is tne same rate of rifling twist.(1in16")The chambers are different demensions and not interchangeable from one cartridge to the other. There will be a difference in poi due to a difference in velocity but one may shoot just as good of groups as the other.All guns seem to prefer one load over others.You just have to find what your firearm likes. sam.
