Hi all,
I've always admired the SKS, and I just ordered one through Frontier Taxidermy in Saskatchewan. ($240 plus free S&H... Will be here in late March/early April). It is Russian built, issued, but in "excellent condition". (fingers and toes crossed here).
I was just wondering what the differences are between a Russian, Chi-Com, and Yugo built SKS? Which one is of superior quality?
I'm new to this type of weapon-the only other milsurp I own is a "self restored" Lee Enfield #4 MK1*. Any info from you SKS owners would be greatly appreciated!
well you will normally hear that the russian is the best, then the norinco, both due to the fact that their barrels are chromed. russians however, tend to be more expensive. i have a yugo that i probably spent too much on, but it is about as nice and new as you can get. yugos differ from the other sks's in the fact that they have a grenade launcher and g launcher sights, and tend to be a little heavier.

Earlier Norincos built on military contract are better than the later ones with cheapened manufacture for the US civilian market. Quality runs the gamut, depending on condition and prior useage.
I put over 1000 rounds thru my soviet SKS, no problems, but the yugoslav SKS's are more accuate, if you get a good one. I love them both. Both are EXTREMLY reliable! good choice.
I currently own an original Russian type 45 (non-import marked), two Norinco type 56 (one is a paratrooper), and a Yugo 59/66 A1. They are all great guns and all quite accurate. The Russian is the most accurate (at least in my case).
There is an easy way to check the accuracy of Russian military rifle, without actually shooting it. On the base of the front sight, directly above the muzzle there will be a 1, 2 or 3 stamped. These are arsenal accuracy marks indicating the results of the arsenal test fire. 1 is the most accurate grouping, then 2, then 3.
Can’t say I know anything about the Albanian. In any case, they are all fun to shoot!!!
I own a Norinco, and have fired a Russian and Yugo. To me, the Chinese and Russian models are near equal. I'd give the Russian model a slight edge because of looks and history.
