My boss gave me two Chinese SKSs. One was missing the operating rod and the other has a folding stock. All the other parts are original. Is this legal or do I need to either get another wooden stock on it or put in some compliance parts? Trying to do the right thing.
Sweet, gave you, really SWEET. It is legal to do, you have to be compliant with some code or statute, it has to do with using U.S. parts I think, could be wrong on that. Someone will correct me if I am. But please note once you do anything to them that is other then how it left the manufacturer, it is no longer considered to be C&R.
Just google Chinese SKS accessories and something should come up.

I gave one to my son-in-law (the folder) and put a flat earth TAPCO T6 stock on the other one since the stock it came with was pretty beat up. I'm surprised how well the TAPCO magazine works. I just bought a Romanian SKS at an auction, but it is not ejecting the shell. The bolt doesn't move. I've checked the operating rod, gas piston and everything. Someone on this forum told me it was probably my bolt or bolt carrier. I haven't done anything with that. Also got a Russian SKS at the same auction. It is in great shape and shoots like a champ. I am not computer literate enough to post pictures yet or I would. Bought a Yugo, but haven't shot it yet. All I need is the Albanian, but I've never seen one.
Just remember, any that have been altered, parts removed and or replaced that were not on it when originally manufactured, now make it no longer fall under the C&R status. It doesn't mean it's illegal, just means it can't be claimed under C&R (Curio and Relic). If in the near future, you can find the parts to make it back to C&R status, like a stock, they are out there, then if it ever comes up, you just put it back to how it once was.
In the mean time, there's nothing wrong with having it how it is. Enjoy it and happy shooting.
Oh, you might want to read this thread about slamfires, just to make yourself aware of the possibility of one happening. For roughly $40 bucks, there's an easy fix for slamfires.

It's the Romanian that is having trouble ejecting, not the Yugo. The Romanian has no gas valve.

I haven't had any problems with slam fires. My firing pins are free to move. The only problem I have is after I fire a round the bolt does not come back and eject the round. Operating the bolt by hand, it feels like it drags on the top of the receiver when it comes back, Not sure if that is the problem or not. It doesn't feel a lot diifferent than my other SKSs, but a little harder.
