HEY--CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE BEST WAY TO REMOVE REAR SIGHT FROM 30-CARBINE WINCHESTER M1-PEEP SLIDE---THANKS FOR ALL THE TIPS IN THE PAST--GOOD ADVISE IS HARD TO FIND AND I ENJOY THIS FORUM--THANKS JJ

I don't know why you would want to do that...Remove a Type 1 sight, but OK. I use a Brass bar and a Hammer and tap it out carefully by tapping the LOWER part of the base only.

They make a tool for it, can be punched but risk damage. Sight is probably staked in place. They only go one way, I beleive to remove they go to the right

Always remove carbine rear sights by driving them from the left to right. There is a slight taper in the dovetail and if you drive them the other way, you can destroy the carbine by breaking off the rear of the dovetail!

Which side is the "right" side? Better explain it or he's gonna have a problem.

REAR SIGHT--Right side I assume is, when at your shoulder aiming, your right hand would be on right side of weapon, Looked up on---m1.50webs.com---they say in artical #20 drive right to left to remove. Experience is better than theory.

The rear sight can be drifted out even if heavily staked. I try a big nylon puch first, then a big brass one. I change out these sights regularly and some are loose., hence the staking. I try to hide the stakes under the sight by moving it to maximum left and right windage. A sturdy vise and a big hammer remove even the stubborn ones w/o marring that Hoppes won't remove.

J-Hoss....out is left to right. IN is right to left. That is why there is an S on the left side of the flip sight. It indicates the "small" side of the sight which goes in first. I'm a carbine gunsmith. You have it backwards! If you have quoted article 20 correctly, then the article is WRONG.

Hey Glockmeister--Carbine Sight being replaced with red dot--Grew up with open sights and since I buy guns to shoot, I change them a little to fit my style. After fifty years of hunting I still would not step out the door with a peep sight. I guess you have to love them or hate"m.

Back to the weapon, I am missing a couple of fingers on right, so I make my rifle as light as possible, in this case I used a poly stock(for the small pistol grip), and if I do not like the red dot I will go to a scope. If I ever sell the WIN. I will put back to original---Love this 30 Cal.---Thanks for the Help---jhoss

Carbine Sight--10-4 on Artical Wrong---Since I read the replys I went and got a pair of MIC"s and the right side taper appears to be about .010 thosds. wider than the left--Thanks for tip---jhoss

Someone should correct the article. I'd hate to see someone destroy their receiver by driving the sight in the wrong direction and snapping off the rear of the dovetail.
