A moderate low priced scope that I have found quite adequate is the Tasco 6-24X40 scopes. I use several of them on my .22's. They have different models, and prices can vary from $80 to $140. Another is the BSA Platinum models. I have one that goes to 32 power, but I leave it on 24. Cranking it higher causes distortion. All these have the adjustable objectives.
At Wally World there is a Hunter's Point scope in 6-24x40 for $69.98...I've not tried it out yet, but it's got a lighted Mil-Dot reticle in red OR green...if anyone gets one or has one, PLEASE REVIEW!!!
Sometimes...and I emphasise the SOMETIMES...you can find a great deal from a new company...othertimes you find out they just suck green eggs. I'll find out by the end of the month on that one & post the results

whatever you get.
see if you can find one with very fine crosshairs and no dot.
that dot gets in the way by covering up the tiny groups you will (hopefully) be shooting.

I picked up a Sightron 3-9X40 scope for a Ruger 10/22. Ran me $115, runs normally around $129 bucks. It's part of the SI series scopes. I got the mil-dot reticle, but, it also comes in a standard somewhat thin reticle.
Just go to several stores and look at and thoroughly check out several scopes in several brands. If and when you find one, then go look online and see what the best deal is you can find. Lots to choose from out there, as I'm sure you know. Many different opinions out there as well, as in time you will see.
One last thing I'd say, no matter what scope you decide to get, make sure you get as good as if not even better mount and set of rings. Getting a good or even great scope means nothing if you get cheap a crappy mount and or rings...Good luck and be sure and let us know what you decide on.

I have the Center Point 6-24x40 scope on my A-15. To this point I like the thing and find it to be a fairly decent scope. The lighted reticle is cool but I don't know how it will help shooting.
More later.
I believe the lighted reticle is for dusk/dawn shooting...when there's enough light to see by, but not quite enough to see the reticle in your scope.
I'm headed to Wally to grab that scope shortly...need coffee first...
OK, grabbed it, $69.97 cost plus tax, but I bought a buncha other stuff with it
Center Point 4-16x40mm, Green and Red LIGHTED Mil-Dot reticle...just put the battery in...it's NIFTY!! Adjustable Objective, Zero locking/resetting windage & elevation, includes Flip-Open lens covers, Multi-coated Optics, Weaver-style rings included.
Weighs 18.8 oz.
Will spend the afternoon putting it on the rifle properly...probably won't get to shoot it before tomorrow tho. I'll post how it does

If you are only going to shoot targets at a 100 yards a strait 36 power works nice if your going for different ranges a variable is better. I have put some BSA scopes on some of mine but if I had more dough they would all be Leopold or Burris (I have a couple Burris)
For anyone doing a Center Point 4-16x40 Scope...don't even try to re-use your old .22 rings UNLESS they are See-Through-Rings...regular rings are not nearly tall enough. I tried to re-use my old Tasco rings...too short. Bought a pair of Kwik-Site .22 conversion rings and they were slightly taller than the Tasco, but still too short. They were out of the See-Through rings so I returned them and got a Weaver TO-10 Top Mount Base.
Here's where the knowledgable ones go "But WAIT, the TO-10 is a flat rail and it doesn't have a slot for the bolt-action ejection."
Darn skippy...you then draw a cut-out onto the rail where you NEED a chunk taken out, then use a drill, drill the two edges and use a saber-saw to cut out the junk in between...you then file it a bit to make it smooth again, then prime & paint the exposed metal.
YES it's a danged headache...but then, if I wanted a hobby that wasn't very frustrating from time to time, I'd take up needlepoint. :xlaugh:

I'm going to put the cp scope to the test on sat. I will post the results sat night. ranges are 100,150,200,and back to 100. Hope it can hold center. Platform is a rem. 30-06 no frills
I had absolutly no problems with the center point 4x16x40 scope. I fired 24 rounds from my rem 30-06 w/ the elevated ring mounts saturday. Started at 50yds(after boresighting) 100,150,200,and 250, and backwards to 100 The scope held zero with no problems. To bright to use illum so i didn't bother. great scope for the money
