alrigth SKS fellas, SCHOOL ME!

im not to fimiliar with them. shot my buddys today and realized i was hooked. its on my list . i would think the longevity would be just as long as a ak almost but not sure. ive seen them as cheep as 150$ is the accuracy better with the sks compared to the ak because of its longer barrel or is the 7.62x39 inevidably not the most precise round. justsome thoughts.thanks guys

FMJ- The SKS, generally speaking, is more accurate. Your SKS will probably outlive you. Remember, these were Assault rifles not snipers. I say that because a lot of people seem to forget that AK's and the SKS were not meant to be 800m tack drivers. They are rugged, reliabe, and just plain fun to shoot. There are the Yugos, the Norincos, and the Russians, all good rifles. Starting wth the somewhat inexpensive Yugos, and going up in price from there. Before you buy I would go back a ways in this forum and read up on them. You'll be better informed, and will probably do better when it comes time to buy. Good Luck!

Get to know the weapon

Have you bought one yet? When you do get one do the necessary teardown and cleaning, especially the bolt. There are as many as five types of firing pins that were used in different variants. Thoroughly clean bolt, bolt carrier, and trigger group with a solvent. I use autozone or similiar auto part retailers brake cleaner and a toothbrush and q-tips. this cleaner is about a third of the price of branded spray firearms cleaners and it will cut gunk like it was butter. I also use compressed air to blow away any excess that doesnt evaporate. Above all else make sure the firing pin is dry and clean, and i mean clean! Depending on the rifle, yoy will want to hear the firing pin rattle when you shake it. There are many sites with very good info like free assembly and disassembly videos and .pdf downloads that explain procedures. But most of all before you buy reasearch, research, Know what you want and what you will settle for. hope ive been some help. If you have anymore questions somebody on here can answer them or refer you to someone who can! Good luck and good shooting!

note he means that it was a rifle meant for assault, not the normal media corruption of the word that means any gun initially designed for the military.

He speak truth about research before you buy. Otherwise you will be like me and wind up with three of them. One for learner and shooter the second because it was better than the first and the third because it was a good price for a collector. I guess that is why I now have 10 mosins. LOL!
