kel-tec-Did I put this thing together right?

My dad purchased a kel 380 and the 9mm models. We took them shooting. I cleaned them. After putting them back together, I noticed something about each of them. Please let me know if this is supposed to be this way....

380- You must rack the slide to pull the trigger and have the firing pin hit.
9mm- You can simply pull the trigger and the firing pin will hit. (Very hard pull though).

I am second guessing myself because I thought the .380 could just be pulled like the 9mm....but now I do not remember. Please help.

(One final thought....I think kel-tek is absolute crap and would never purchase one myself. Plastic feels like a toy).

The P3-AT is a great gun.

The internal-kinda hammer must be cocked by racking the slide before it can be fired.

But, when the hammer is cocked, the hammer is only cocked about halfway so if it falls, it most likely will not have the power to set off the round chambered. When you pull the trigger, the hammer will go back all the way then fall.

The P3-AT is like single, then-one-half action... :-)

I enjoy mine for CC, but enjoy, as you do, the feel of blued steel with maybe some wood in my hands usually when doing anything else.

Do you have the user manual? You can also check Kel-Tec to see if there is any info there you can use.

I don't know if you have the PF-9 or the P-11.

Kel-Tec is an American company and also offers a transferrable lifetime warranty on their firearms. If you have any question about the weapon or worries it is working improperly, call them:

Tel: 321-631-0068
Toll free 1-800-515-9983
M-F 8am-4pm EST

You can talk to a technician who will walk you through disassembly and reassembly and testing (empty of course). If they decide your weapon is not working properly, they will ask you to send it in for free repair or replacement. And, I believe they reimburse you for the shipping costs for their preferred method.

Good Luck.
