February, you know black history month.

I've always kept my mouth shut about this. I did/do because I never wanted to come off as prejudice. Maybe it's only like this in the "north"?

But as the title to this thread states I'm talking about February being black history month. What has always gotten me bent out of shape with it is, why is the President whose birthday also falls in February, the 12th to be exact, and also the one who basically freed them, is NEVER mentioned, at all during the month of February or in regards to the month long black history celebration?

This ( black history month ) isn't one of those things only celebrated in Illinois is it? Like Cashmir Polaski day? ( don't ask, lol )

Please, don't get me wrong. I do my best to not be a prejudice person or say things that are. But sometimes I just get to the point I have to say something and if it sounds prejudice, then so be it. But, I am an American, and sometimes I get fed up, and this is one of those times. But, I remember Abraham Lincoln! I remember learning about him from my days in school and the part of history he's famous for. For being the 16th President of these United of States and for the Emancipation Proclamation. Two important things among many others that his name is associated with. But during these days of February, I never hear his name mentioned in the same sentence with the month, not even on his birthday; nor do I hear his name as part of what is celebrated the entire month.

Now that I think of it, I don't even remember the last time I saw a calendar indicating his birthday on 12th of February? The one on our fridge now doesn't have anything. Can't remember the last time any did.

It irritates me and I had to vent. Maybe in other states he is remembered, and calendars in those same areas still have his name on the 12th? His name remembered. Him remembered. But not around here. I never saw it from the schools around here when my son had to do a report, his name not among the names on the list he got to or has gotten to choose from for that report; nor do I here him ever mentioned on T.V. around here during the month of February anymore. I think that's just wrong and I'd like to know WHY NOT???

Anyhow, anyone wishing to leave a comment, do so. If anyone wants to condemn me for saying anything, go ahead. If anyone wants to call me prejudice, go ahead, I know different. I just had to say something because for the past 20 years or so, as long as I've had a child in the school system where we live, it's been bothering me and up until now, I haven't said a word. I decided, it was time. I was no longer going to bottle it up inside, for fear of sounding prejudice. They say doing things like bottling things up inside isn't healthy anyhow. I've said my peace. Will it still bother me, probably. Just not as much. lol

I'm not racist... simply because I hate EVERYONE regardless of religion or color. But, I HATE black history month.

I apologize Chris. I thought the powder keg was the right spot. My bad.. I mean it does have to do with our heritage and this country. And it can be a powder keg of sorts. If you'd like to delete it, feel free to do so.

Right now there are so many other issues going on in the United States that to me this would be way down the list in importance. However, if the post helped relieve bottled up stress for you then it is important. I did not mean for my post to sound derogatory and if it did please accept my apology.

Well i for one can't stand any of the black history month, BET,MIss black usa, united negro college fund, NAACP, Al sharpton. All it is is reverse racisim. I wish there was a miss white's only america, or White entertainment televison, or white History month. It is just a bunch of bull $hit.

Black people should be thankful for their ancestors being sold by their own tribes people in Africa as slaves to the world. If they hadn't been they would all still be sitting in Africa in tribal wars, starving to death. The black slaves are the lucky ones imo. If anything we should be getting paid reperations for the free boat ride they got from africa.

Slavery is not just something black people had to endure, it had been going on for thousands of years. I'm not complaing because some romans took my great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandpa hostage during a war and sold him as a slave. Yeah it sucks, but get over it. Black people are not the only race to ever be enslaved or be treated unfairly because of race.

I'm not a racist, I have several black friends, heck my neighbor's are black and are outstanding people who i would do anything for. I like people who are black, but i hate niggers. A Nigger to me is someone who feels they are entitled to something for nothing, and feels the whole world is to blame for their shorcomings, Black or white it dosen't matter I hate them all. You all know what i am talking about whether you admit it or not, but a persons skin has nothing to do with the way i feel about a person.

I feel all people should be treated the same regardless of skin color, and black history month is doing nothing but being partial to black people.

That is actually the best way that we can abolish racism. To ignore the lines between the races to the point we forget there are any.

That is my beef with these kinds of things. People say they want to get rid of racism, but they throw this type of thing around constantly, keeping it alive.

The WORST offender as far as Racism is The FEDERAL and STATE GOVERNMENTS... Like the Census or any other forms you fill out, they ask the "What Race are YOU " Question. The Census lady got Really Upset when I answered "HUMAN"...She said that was not a Valid answer, to which I replied, It is valid and since I am NOT an ALIEN from another Planet, anything else is a Racism promoting answer...She left my answer blank, and I got a Call from the Supervisor, and I explained it to her, and she was actually delighted by my answer, and Claimed a Lot of people had responded "American" !!!
There are good and bad people in all colors and Backgrounds, but we are all Humans, Period !
