BIll to effectively ban regulated ammo in MD

I found this in another forum posted by Novus Collectus

Synopsis:

Authorizing a person to sell ammunition for a regulated firearm on or after January 1, 2009, only in accordance with the Act; requiring an ammunition manufacturer to encode ammunition for a regulated firearm in a specified way; requiring the Secretary of State Police beginning on January 1, 2009, to establish and maintain an encoded ammunition database; imposing a tax of 5 cents per round on the sale of encoded ammunition beginning on January 1, 2009; etc.

This is a de facto ammunition ban for handguns and regulated rifles in MD because no manufacturer will be able to comply with the encoding by Jan 1 2009 and most will not see the point of complying just for MD customers. This is a sneaky way to make ammunition unavailable for hunters, recreational shooters and prevents people that need a gun for home defense from practicing.

Even if there is a manufacturer that supplies MD with encoded ammunition, they will charge more for the encoding batches and then there is the $.05 a round cost to us. For those of us that shoot a thousand rounds a year that is $50 in tax alone, and maybe double that with the manufactuters added cost.
Some of us shoot ten thousand rounds a year. This would be at least a $500 annual tax. They want to tax the gun sports out of existence or backdoor ban it.

WHAT?!?!
Has anyone else hears about this?

Quite a few states are trying this back door attempt to interfere with our 2nd Amendment rights. Write your representatives for your district and politely ask them to vote against this ridiculous attempt at circumventing your 2nd Amendment rights.

All it will do - IF it passes - is to create a huge Black Market in out-of-state sales brought in by the owners, or from reloaders who had the good foresight to stock up on components.
The ammo companies can stave this off by flat-out refusing to make the 'encoded' and other ammo available to State and metro police and security companies. If they disarm the public, we CAN disarm their police too. Take THAT, Political AH's!!

If the Police could not get ammo anywhere in the State and could not legally bring uncoded ammo into the State I wonder how long it would take the State Legislature to repeal this law? Probably not until a bunch of the good guys were killed or inured. Hope my State Legislators have better sense. Sounds like something the Clintons would back.

they can't even win the war on drugs......not even close.......and we're to fear them if they try to rip our guns and ammo? they dont have enough manpower to even keep order in the cities NOW......this is just scare tactics, and even if they do have the balls to legislate it they won't be able to enforce it...hell, our prisons are all full now.....if they rip our 2nd amend. rights it will be another civil war....i don't even live in a big city; Spokane, WA, and yet there is almost a murder per day committed here nowadays. used to NEVER have murders or violent crime here, but now its outa control, they cant get a handle on the regular crime, much less mobilize to possibly grab guns........they will have to do a hell of a lot of recruiting to get enough police, and possibly ask the national guard to assist to even have a prayer of enforcing a gun grab....it'll never fly.....and even less of a possibility in bigger cities....could you imagine the chaos if they tried it?
