Protecting People from Themselves (StreetPoles)

Wow, How far can you go to protect people from themselves? Ban fireworks so you don't hurt yourself. Mandate seatbelt and Helmet laws. Padding street poles so people don't walk into them?

What happened to being aware of your surroundings? I don't believe I want to live in the same city as people who are this self-absorbed!

... see what happens in a sue-happy society? Maybe they should wrap cars in foam to prevent cars from piling into the idiot on the cell phone who walked into the street into oncoming traffic next because they were too involved with the conversation than where they were going?

That's actually pretty funny. But it might be simpler to just issue bubble-wrap suits along with the cell phones...

Quite in agreement ezearln ... I'm in strong agreement with Darwin on this... if your dumb enough to not pay attention in your surroundings and walk in front of a car or light pole, you deserve what you get...

Don't worry about it. Either Hillary or Obama will be happy to tell you what the Government is going to do to protect us from ourselves and what rights we are going to have to give up so they can do this.

This was in London, England. Kind of a stretch, trying to tie American presidential candidates to Brits walking into telephone poles...

... then the people fight back and challenge the individuals on the oath of office they took to uphold the Constitution of The United States. Finding that they are not doing their jobs and face impeachment, they back off.

... and people wonder why the Democrats aren't bringing up anti-gun statements in their run to the White House... it would be suicidal.

I repeat: it's a pretty far stretch, to use Brits walking into telephone poles as a platform from which to launch yet another attack on American politicians.

Of course, any old minute here I expect to see it somehow tied to illegal aliens in the U.S. by someone...

Well you do know it's the illegals who're being dumb enough to walk into streetlamps lol

Seriously though, the more different governments try to protect people from their own stupidity, the stupider people will get.

Ah, England...the Nanny State.

Really...let 'em walk into a pole. Teach them to pay attention. I never wear an Ipod or anything when I'm outside. I actively dislike not being able to hear my surroundings.

Don't get me started on texting either. If you're holding a damn phone, talk into it! Way more efficient. I can get more info into a 5 minute call than 10 minutes of texting. If I wanna BS with a friend I'll call them or go see them.

Bt ths crp s jst way 2 dum 4 me 2 wnt 2 bthr wth.

Lame.

Well then, you'll just have to man up and use both sides.

Well if they'll pad lamp posts for the morons that can't walk and text at the same time, what will they pad when those same people try to drive and text? I suppose they should just start padding people. Prevent them from causing harm to not only to themselves, but from others. Then there'd be no need to pad anything else. Just pad people.

In fact, padding people would create an entirely new job. Then the guy that got the job could tell his friends and family saying; Hey, I got a new job today.
Yea, what do you do? Oh, I'm a people padder. A people padder? Yea, it's this new thing they're going to start doing now so people don't or can't hurt themselves while walking and talking or texting on the phone. It will also protect people from getting hurt through out their day to day activities. Then, when everyone is padded, I'll be needed to do repairs or re-pads. Then I'll be promoted to the position of re-padder.

Commonly referred to as "multi-tasking". I watched a young blonde past me on HWY 64 in west Tennessee. She had the rearview mirror pointed at her as she put on makeup, ate an Egg McMuffin, and talked on her cellphone, all the while steering her car with her knee!

It's really hard to make things foolproof because fools are so ingenious.

It's a greater fool who keeps on trying.
