CAS is maybe the most popular shooting sport right now. If you look at all the 357's and 44 mags that are being used, you well find them loaded with 38spl and 44spl. REDUCED RECOIL helps when doing timed shooting. Personally, I don't use 38/44spl in my magnuns, EXCEPT my M640, I try to shoot 50 rounds a month of 38spl, but I carry it with 357mag loads.

That is one thing that bothers me about cowboy action or SASS.The reduced loads.I couldnt be bothered loading reduced loads. When i fire my handguns i want the noise and recoil it is supposed to have. But then i am one of them strange silhouette shooters.

I love shooting full loads, one of the reason I bought a 357super max. I've turned up the powder on my old Vaquero 45lc, I think it hits harder than my 44mags. Speaking of 44mags, this followed my home today, to cheap to pass up.
irish murphy, do you guys get the NHRA or guns and ammo TV shows down there? They show all the different shooting disciplines, and they are all shooting cap gun loads. I would like to see them do it with full house loads.
How far from Sydney are you? My kid lives in Sydney, getting married next week in FiJi, guess I have a bloke for a son-in-law now. I want to come down this summer (your winter). Good shooting.

Just a follow-up. I had the opportunity to shoot a Blackhawk in .357 last week. Very smooth, especially after the action job. Sight is greatness. The sight makes the difference between the Blackhawk and the Vaquero. The .357, shooting .38SP takes away the recoil in action shooting, which is important. Shooting 357 magnum, that's a kick.

I have a "NMBH" in .38/.357mag, both shoot equally well and at .25yds on a target range, to me, the only difference seems to be the noise. But for hunting, the .357 mag is the way to go. I have mounted a 4x32 scope on and use it for deer hunting. I also plan to get a 9mm cylinder for it. 9mm is cheap and plentiful. BTW, if it weren't safe to shoot like that, Ruger wouldn't have made so many "convertibles" in their Blackhawk line or their GP100 or GP101 line. Yes you can get a GP101 in 9mm.

If you want to kick up the .357 and you have the 9mm cyl. Have it taken out for the Bain and Davis (357/44mag). A truely awesome round.

Just got my Ruger New Model BlackHawk 5 1/2" BBL in .45 colt about a week ago and had to send it back, rather Ruger issued a call tag for it. When I first got it, as with all or any new firearm, I cleaned it of any long term storage oils/lubricants/rust preventatives or whatever the manufacturer uses and I used what I've always used, a CLP. Don't know why or how but the next thing I knew, the bluing literally came off the back of the cylinder (spur side).
Now I'm without and have no clue for how long. Hopefully they'll (Ruger) hook me up quick with a quick turn around time also? I hate having paid for something and not have it. Now this would be if I'd gotten it and sent it out to Bob Munden for one of his option #1 trigger jobs. That, I'd be okay with. lol If he ever replies to my inquiry, I just might be willing to part with the replacement or whatever they decide to do for me if Bob has the time?
I was originally hoping he'd of gotten back to me before I even got it so I could have maybe considered having it drop shipped directly to him. Glad that didn't happen cuz who knows if Ruger would have even honored the warranty for this problem let alone have it happen after getting the trigger job. That would have really pissed me off so kind of glad he didn't get back to me as of yet.
Anyhow, I'm bummed. My first Ruger, this is what happens and this does not exactly make me want to consider getting another Ruger at the moment or any time soon. I know this isn't normal as Rugers are well known for quality. All
I can say is it looked as if something was on the cylinder before they blued it and whatever it was simply didn't let the bluing take; Because it literally washed right off once the CLP hit it?
Does this SUCK or what? lol

I owned a .45LC/.45ACP convertible and loved it. I wish I had it back but divorces will make you do things you don't want to.
I also prefer the .45 over the .357...I like 45 performance better.
Just FYI
