Well, I got a scope this afternoon. Hopefully it will work out. I hit a few shops in the area and most of the scopes I found were just too big and/or too much for such a rifle. So I ended up with something that has a slightly larger bell than I had wanted, but hey. Gives me an excuse to use see through mounts. I got a Simmons 3-9x50. Put me out about $40. I figure if it doesn't work out I can always eBay it and get something else.

So here's another question. Like a moron I bought a set of rings and they ended up not being what I was expecting. Apparently, they are meant to attach to the receiver directly instead of a mount. Now, I've put a lot of scopes on a lot of rifles and seen a lot of different types of rings before, but this is new to me. They are meant to fit my rifle, but it does seem weird to me. Does anyone have experience with rings like these? Of course I need to find a long screwdriver to get them on, but hey. Do they work? (they are Weaver rings)

Note to self: never pick scope rings while in the middle of a horrible headache.

My Savage .22 has rings with small[for lack of a better word] 'claws' on them that attach directly to the action. Are the ones you have the same?

If those are see-thru mounts, they bolt right to the Receiver and they work OK, but they do put the scope up pretty High...I have used them before...
It takes long shanked Gunsmith Screwdrivers to install them...

They will work as MM says but you may want a slideon cheekrest to go with them. Not a bad setup tho.A 50mm bell wont hurt but you may want a sunshield to use on bright days. sam.

No these are Weavers and they actually screw onto the 10/22's receiver in place of the mount.

I've pretty much decided to try returning them and then getting something else.

Sucklead, going by what scope you said you got, size that is not brand, the 3-9X50mm, you may have to get the see-through style mounts. Yes, as moose said, they'll raise your scope up higher, about 1 and 7/8 inches, but you may have to use them because that 50mm objective lens will hit the rifle. Your going to have to use something mount or ring wise that will raise that scope up off the rifle. The only other alternative is get a scope with a smaller objective lens, or pay big bucks for the Leupold that has the arc that sits over the barrel that helps keep it lower.

At least before you go returning that mount, see where the 50mm side of that scope will hit and how much higher you'll have to be so that it doesn't.
