I have to go to Nevada for a wedding next month and I'm going to be doing some treasure hunting out in the desert. That and some preliminary scouting for a possible cougar hunt in SW Utah next fall. My brother has a place near Cedar City.

There is a particular wagon train I am interested in that had alot of gold on it that was wiped out by the Paiute Indians. Some of the gold had special mint marks that have never reached known circulation. It is suspected the Indians buried the gold which is valued to be over 30 million today. There was a total of 22 wagons in the wagon train.

I'll have lots of guns on me so billy and AH don't plan no ambush...I'll be sleeping with one eye open.

Sounds like a blast.

But I doubt the Natives buried the gold and never recovered it, not with what was happening to them at the time and what that gold could do for them.

killer I wish you luck and a Mine Lab metal detector would be nice to carry with you.
Wouldn't you suspect the Gold meant nothing to the Indians ? Because gold brought a lot of white men out west.
I've read storys where indians tottaly destroyed anything a white man had, they would even dismember and mash up the bodys of the one's they killed.
They may of kept the gold or returned it back to the earth and if it had markings they probably removed them because the white man put them there.
Can your wifes family be of help to you ?

I'll go ask some Paiutes about it.

If I can get onto their golf course.

But yeah, it's very unlikely they didn't take anything of value with them if they could.

Whereabouts will you be looking?

And AH, the Paiute were hardly the ignorant savages of western movies. They were canny enough to understand the value of money - heck, still are. They're doing pretty well by the standards of a lot of Native Americans nowadays.

Coel I truly didn't mean any disrespect towards any tribe of Indians, but I did read about what some did to white people "back then" And I don't blame them if they did. And too I'll admit I don't beleive everything I read.
Sorry if I offended anyone. Love A.H

No...I'm on my own. The wife is Cherokee. Here's a pic of "Two Feathers" taken around 1980.

There was a wagon train attacked by the Paiutes a lone survivor crawled off from and stated the last thing he saw were the Indians flinging the gold coins out over a river to see how far they could fly. That river has been known to produce some of the gold coin on occasion.
I have a couple of books on lost desert treasure. It's going to be part of the retirement plan during the cold Minnesota winters to take the pickup, ATV and my best coyote gun and do some gold panning and desert snooping.
Some of the new high tech methods are to study satellite pictures and determine lost rivers and such that existed thousands of years ago missed by the earlier gold prospectors due to the fact no water is near them now.
My brother retired from Nellis Air Force base so he knows alot of the treasure tales too. Lots of robberys they never found the loot from. Crap..wish I was already retired. I sure could keep busy doing nothing.

Killer good hunting
I have heard a lot of stories about lost gold and items missing in that area.
Have you heard the story of the Spanish that brought horses to the area a little more south i believe. Rumor has it that they stashed some small gold cannons in a cave that no one has ever been able to find.
Also be careful... a buddy of mine panned some gold and retrieved around $600.00 or so to find it missing the next morning. Now he does drink a good bit but the story was backed up by his father in law....very convincing.

Have fun and lets us know how ya do....earl
