Pro-immigration group opens D.C. war room
Posted: 04:05 PM ET
WASHINGTON (CNN) – A pro-immigration group announced Wednesday it is beefing up efforts to promote its agenda, eight months before voters head to the polls.
America’s Voice has hired pro-immigration operative Frank Sharry to lead the organization, which will focus on “mobilizing” immigrant voters, and establishing a “campaign-style … rapid response war room.” Sharry is the former head of the National Immigration Forum.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll released this week shows that immigration ranks fifth behind the economy, Iraq, health care, and terrorism on the list of the most important issues heading into the elections.

You know, the very term "immigrant voter" is an oxymoron. You can't vote here unless you are a United States citizen - although I have no doubt the Democrats would love to do away with that requirement if they thought they could get away with it. And for what it is worth, I've seen many naturalized citizens who are more patriotic than many native-born Americans - because they've seen what's available elsewhere, and they'd rather come here and be American citizens.

As I've said many times, I have no problem with immigrants who go through the process of becoming a naturalized citizen at all. Glad to have them. It's the illegals I have a serious problem with.

People who come here to be citizens don't want the crud that was left behind coming to their new homeland. They come here for freedom, and don't want it taken away. Those who come to plunder could care less, and I feel that money being drained from our economy by illegals is plundering. They don't give a crap about our country, so why do some politicians care so much about them? The legal immigrants don't want it any more than we do!!

Plain and simply... to get their support, no more, no less.
A politician will do anything to keep his job -- even become a patriot.

I might be missing something here, but who exactly is against immigration? I am all for immigration, as long as it done legally. My wife is an immigrant from Brazil, and after a long, difficult, and expensive process she is now a legal resident, paying taxes and on her way to citizenship. So unless this "group" is all for illegal immigrants, then they should be able to do what they want. My wife would love to vote, but not for a few more years when she is eligible. The country is made of immigrants, and as long as they are coming here for the right reasons, and doing it by the book then I say Welcome, otherwise either get out, or go through the process like the rest of the law abiding ones did. And learn the damm language while your doing as well. That really grinds my gears that so many refuse to learn our language...we are the only friggin country in the world that caters as much as we do to non english speaking people....I surely hope which ever ying yang gets into office puts some work into the pathetic excuse for an immigration process we have in this country. make it a little more simple, a nice fee, some good background checks, an english test, and a pat on the back. In case non of you have ever had to go through the process with someone...it's really screwed up. They actually stole money from me, the dept of immigration stole from me. My wife had filled out a ton of forms, and one of the was the wrong one...knowone would tell us which ones to fill out, or answer any questions at all for that matter. So she sent in the forms, and the filling fees...and we got a letter like 10 weeks later sayint that one of the forms was the wrong one, and oh by the way...we're keeping the $300 some odd dollar fee. Unbelievable, I was so mad...and there was nothing I could do about it. Anyway, immigrants are welcome...legally only!

I agree roadie, legal immigration for those that abide by the rules and laws of our country. Those illegally here should have no rights.

I'm have no problem with anyone that immigrates to the U.S. legally, and I work with guys that have gone through the proper channels to be here, (that have no sympathy for illegals). It appears to me that they are organizing immigrants that are legally here to get together and vote for laws that will make it easier or better for their illegal relatives or ones trying to get here? Did I interpret this wrong?

Any naturalized citizen who votes is an immigrant voter; no oxymoron at all. And I don't find it surprising that an advocacy group of any kind at all woul establish an office in D.C.

But somehow I doubt it's really the rights of naturalized citizens and legal immigrants they're worried about...
