What is what appears to be a metal circle in the rear of the stock (where it goes to your shoulder when in shooting stance) in the stock for? On my Turk Mauser its there, and has a hole through it. I am interested to know the purpose of it. It appears that it is metal, that has been lacquered over or finished over when the stock was finished.

A cleaning kit maybe? Is it a little spring loaded door of sorts? Got a picture you can post of it maybe?

Bolt take down disc! Aid in dis-assembling the bolt if there isn't one in the side of the stock.

No sir, its not a cleaning kit trapdoor thing. I know what you're talking about. I have seen this feature on quite a few Mausers. I'm not sure how it would be used to help disassemble the bolt. The only thing I can see it being used for in that way is for pressing the firing pin to twist off the cocking piece?

"To use the take down disk. Place the firing pin tip into the hole and the firing pin safety shoulders will rest on the disk. Keep the assembly vertical and do not accidentally bend the tip.
Keeping the safety vertical, place your thumb over the safety, grip the bolt sleeve and compress the spring. With the other hand, as soon as the cocking piece turns freely, rotate it 1/4 turn in either direction, lift off, and gently release pressure on the spring.
The bolt sleeve and spring will slide off the firing pin. Turn the safety to the right and remove."

I was thinking the same thing.. I'd heard it was for the bolt, but I've always just used a short pc of 2x4 to tear them apart.. I'll have to give the doohickey a shot..

Make the 3. I was only guessing based on his description (especially the part where he says the part that goes to your shoulder, and I immediately thought of the base of the buttstock thus trapdoor cover) and before the picture. lol
