Ok, so i thought what i have is a batch of Bulgarian light ball. But now im confused, been looking on the ammo id sites and stuff but cant find anything. Now onto ammo description. Im going to describe the Head stamp like a compass North top, south bottom, and so on. Ok N = Star, W = 3, S 50, E = 10
The ammo came in 250 rnd cans. wrapped ten rounds to a paper bundle.
Is the bullet tip painted any color? Is it copper washed casings?
With just the headstamp, my guess is 3 is the cyrillic letter Z; 10 meaning Kazanlak Arsenal in Bulgaria; 50 is year of manufacture.
It could also be 3 for Ulyanosk Machinery Plant; 10 for Russia. It is hard to tell with this little information.

Marion- It is. For ammunition manufactured post 1946. There was a Russian State Arsenal with an unknown location that used the 10 stamp. It ceased operation in 1946. So maybe the 10 stamp was transferred to the bulgarians when they started operation?

I have been reading on the headstamps. There seems to be a lot of eastern bloc ammo factories that were never named, nor their exact location known, in general. Very interesting stuff! Also, the ID Guide we both know is a work in progress as they state. So I think as more and more of this ammo is found and exported we shall find some interesting stuff out.

Ok, there is no paint on the bullet. I cannot tell if they are copper washed, how can i tell?i wish i had my camera to take some pictures... the only picture i have is the one with my 91/30 and the ammo boxes do not seem to be clear, but here ya go.
o ya, the packages are either pink in color or blue, not sure if this will help.
F1609- Either it is standard brass cartridges, or it is "copper washed", and sort of an off-color. Is the ammo magnetic? The tins look Bulgarian for sure. The other point is, I cannot find anything packed 250 rds per tin. At any rate, I'd save some, as I haven't found any 1950 ammo yet!

Use a magnet and see if they are magnetic. If so it is copper washed steel, if not it's brass.
well found some 250 rounds on AIM but im not sure if it is the same as what I bought. I bought mine at a local gun shop and dont even think the people there had any idea about them. And they are brass.
Would you all PLEASE stop talking about different ammo cans, different ammo manufacturers and stuff like that!!! I already have too much ammo and now you all are about to make me buy some more just to get that can with the handle on it! PLEASE!!! I CAN'T CONTOL MYSELF!!!!!
