The right tool...for the right job...

Man shoots wife while installing satellite TV system : News : KHQA

...is not what was going on here.

"SEDALIA, MO. (AP) -- Officials are trying to decide whether to file charges against a Missouri man who fatally shot his wife while trying to install a satellite TV system in their home.
Thirty-four-year-old Patsy Long of Deep Water was pronounced dead Saturday evening after being shot in the chest with a .22-caliber handgun. Her husband, Ronald Long, fired the shot from the inside of their home after several unsuccessful efforts to punch a hole through the exterior wall using other means."

It takes how much to rent a drill and some drill bits or if it was concrete and he really thought a 22 pistol would have gotten through i think it hit the wrong person.

The article isn't written very well, but I get the impression it wasn't a ricochet but rather a shot into her from inside.

He should be charged with 2nd degree murder, because that is what that actually is. I would never discharge a firearm in or near my home unless I felt that I needed to for fear of my own life.

If he is from Sedalia, I guarantee there are enough good ol boys over there that have access to power tools. I bet he could have borrowed one from his neighbor.

I am not a lawyer but, I believe for 2nd degree murder there must be an intent to kill someone. He should be charged with manslaughter on top of stupidity. Then flogged, beaten and perhaps dragged down a dirt road behind a pickup truck.

Actually you are correct and I had my murder laws mixed up, he should be tried for manslaughter.

He wanted to punch a hole in the wall so he used a rifle?? Hopefully he will get hit with manslaughter charges, most 12 year olds have better problem solving skills than this clown.

Long drill bits are cheaper than a jail sentence.

This guy is an idiot, but he doesn't need a life sentence for what he did. He's going to sit in prison for nearly 20 years, thinking about how stupid he was, and how his wife is never coming back.

That's punishment enough, in my opinion.

If they don't, they might be able to with an appeal after he goes insane in prison.

He'll probably spend a year or two at most, Bravo. It was hardly premeditated murder, and they'll cut what sentence he does get for good behavior. He may even get probation, depending on what they charge him with.

On the brighter side: since his mate is dead, he won't be able to breed and pass on his 'stupid' gene until he finds another one...

Corpus delecti. Body of the crime. From what I read, its missing intent, thats what investigations are for, homicide is killing of one person by another. if there was no intent it would be ruled accidental. This world is full of stupidity. Yet theres no law against being stupid. Involuntary Manslaughter is accidental death with no intent of commiting a homicide. Like a bar fight without weapons. Voluntary manslaughter would be like a bar fight with weapons where a homicide could occur. Now negligent homicide was be an appropiate charge for civil court only.
