How the gun fits the hand, and reports of accuracy/reliability are what sold me. I was torn between the XD and M&P. I didn't even consider the P99, due to price.
When I held the M&P, it was perfect. Almost as good as a M1911. The XD was better than a Glock, but still too blocky.
The M&P was also the cheapest. Mine was $390 after the $50 rebate, and it came with 4 magazines.
If the P99 fits in your hand better, and the price isn't an issue, then I would go for it. You might want to give the M&P a 2nd look though. Mine currently has almost 1000 rounds through it of the cheapest ammo I can find, and it has yet to fail in any way.

my cz75 is not only pretty, but but is so reliable that it will acualy chamber empty cases.

Yup, the M&P will chamber empty cases as well (at least mine does). Aside from the CZ-75, the only other gun that I have heard is able to do this is the M1911.

We have Walthers, Smith Walthers and non Walther non pistol Springfields. All make good guns pick the one you want. Don't fret over which to not to pick you will change your mind several times later. Think of the future mood swings as more opportunities to make further involvement in the culture. What ever you decide make sure you have enough lead. None of them make very good clubs. I have spent more on bullets for any gun than I have spent on the weapon.

Out of the box, XD certainly has a nicer trigger pull than a Glock. But it has other good stuff besides that bogus safety trigger: pin at the rear of the receiver to indicate cocked, chamber loaded flag, & a grip safety.
M&P doen't have anything for external controls, but is used by the S&W shooting team. The CZ is great, but I can't remember which model has the rubberized grips & the decocker. All you talked about are good. Given that, the fit is the most important
Teaching someone to what to do in a "dead round" situation, I always load 3-4 empty cases (per mag) in my glock 23. They all feed flawlessly. Out of the 200 or so "dud rounds" under live fire conditions, I have never had one singke failure.
Smith and Wesson should stick with revolvers, it is what they are good at. Buy the springfield.

That might be an outdated statement. Every year, Shooting Industry Magazine nominates a bunch of firearms and accessories in a bunch of categories for awards. The awards are related to products released within that year.
Anyway, in 2007, S&W won the Handgun of the Year with it's S&W M&P-45acp model. The runners up were the Springfield EMP and Kimber Desert Warrior M1911...which are both amazing handguns.
S&W also makes what many consider to be some of the best M1911 Handguns out there.
I am also looking to purchase another 9 mm in the next few weeks, I have a Glock 26 which I love and so I have been considering the Springfield XD Subcompact 9mm or the Ruger SR9 but now that I have read this thread I searched the CZ 75 D PCR Compact and I really like the looks of it.
Can anyone tell me what kind of customer service they have?

I can get a p99 used for the same price as the others new and it is very comfortable.

Well here's my personal experience with the Walther P99.
I have a Walther P99/AS. I "had" a compact P99c/AS, but I replaced it for cc with a Walther PPS.
IF you decide to get a Walther P99 please try and get the "AS" (anti-stress) model. This is traditional DA/SA @ 8.8lbs and 4.4lbs respectively. I consider the Walther P99/AS trigger/striker to be one of the best of any pistol on the market.
Let me suggest another alternative.
CDNN is selling SW99's in their latest catalog (p.27)with night sights, one 16rd. magazine new/test fired only for $369.99.
The SW99 is for all practical purposes the same pistol as the Walther P99/AS except it has a slide and barrel made by S&W. The rest of the pistol is ALL German P99/AS...
The reason I make this suggestion is because when my friend couldn't find a Walther P99/AS he bought a new SW99 and he and I have shot his SW99 and my P99 "head to head" many times and I can discern absolutely no differences in quality, accuracy, reliability..
The big plus of the SW99 over the Walther P99 is in my opinion, the SW99 comes with a lifetime warranty whereas the P99 only has a one year warranty. (Both warranties backed by S&W, which has an excellent reputation).
Knowing what I know now IF I were still in the market for a P99 I would buy the SW99 instead, if for no other reason than the lifetime warranty.
Also, I've had my Walther P99/AS less than a year and paid almost $600.00 for it, and this CDNN SW99 is less than $400.00. (I didn't get night sights either).
CDNN also sells magazines very reasonably. P99's mags are 15rd, while SW99 mags hold 16rds. SW99 mags function perfectly in the Walther P99 and visa-versa.
CDNN is also selling this SW99 in vg to ex condition for only $339.99, but the extra $30 you have to pay for the new (test fired only) SW99's gets you the extras (grips/sights) and is certainly worth the difference.
The grip ergonomics of the P99 (or SW99) are excellent, and part of a reason for that is because you get a small/med/large replaceable backstrap and you can tailor the grip shape to your preferences. Only the more expensive version comes with those extra backstraps, and those extras are more than worth the additional cost.
I notice CDNN is also selling the subcompact version of the new/test fired only SW99 (p158) for $389.99 w/night sights & one 8rd mag, but it's in 40cal.
I noticed on p.12 the SW99 is offered in another ad in 9mm "test fired only" for $349.00, but I see no mention of the extra grip backstrap and front sight extras.
IMO a person buying one of these would be wise to buy the $369.99 version.
Just personal opinion/no offense intended.
