Laid off - gone fishing

I got my expected layoff notice at work on Wed. 26th. Expected due to a reduction in the contract. Ready to move on.

But, it gave me a rare opportunity to hop on the boat and go fish Fort Loudon Lake yesterday. I caught a slew of Yellow Bass and Hybrids. Turned out to be one fine day!

Cleaned 'em up and fried them for the family tonight. Very appreciated, especially with the 13 year old daughter. We plan to get back out there this weekend and harvest a bunch more.

Oh, I'll be fine, thanks. I file for unemployment on Monday. Job prospects are already coming in because I've had 2 month's notice on this and have been preparing.

In addition, the wife and I keep the debt and finances under control so these brief periods between gigs are no tragic. There seem to be a fair amount of opportunity here and, once I get caught up on some fishing, I'll be back behind a spreadsheet.

But really, thanks.

Seems to going around

Mitch, The rumor around my shop is the same. I heard I'll be laid off in the next 2 weeks. If they do I'm going to Kentucky for 2 weeks before I start looking. I have some ammo thats needs blasting. I hate to say it but I'm kind of excited about it!

Yep. No use whining about it. Just be a survivor and hit the ground running, after a bit of R & R of course.

Hate to hear about the job loss but I'm glad that you seem well prepared for it. Enjoy the fishing and good luck.

Hey Mitch, Glad you made it into a good day on the lake. I do heating and cooling work, repairs only. The weather has been so up and down this year that I've had much more down time then usual. March is always been slow waiting for the temps to allow us to start working on cooling maintenance and start ups. This year has had more warming periods than normal, causing my butt to be home earlier. My wife likes the company, and I'm likin the extra trigger time. The bills however, well lets not think about them. Good luck with the re-employment. And remember, they aren't idle hands if in them rest a fishin pole or a firearm. Good luck.

Sorry about the layoff but nice to hear you took advantage and went fishing. I am a bit familiar with the different lakes and was always told that Fort Loudon was the dirtiest of the lakes...don't know if that's true: me and my spouse boat and fish primarily on Douglas Lake with Cherokee a 2nd choice. Enjoy the fishin'.

I've been there too. I took the opportunity to start my own business. I'm happier, not as rich (yet).

Hope you find good work soon! I used to fish Ft.Loudon often, along with Norris, Cherokee, & Douglas. Bass fishin in Ft.Ldn is great and really it's my favorite, but a long drive for me. Haven't been down there in about 4 years. Thinking of squirrel hunting some of my old grounds on Norris this fall, something I haven't done in about 25 yrs!

I think you are lucky, unless you did not want to back to work yet.

I hope this isn't taken wrong and I'm saying this because I care. To those layed off I think you should hurry and find another job.
If others were layed off and decide to kick back and collect unemployment for a while, then you need to take advantage of that and be trying to get a job before they do.
Jobs don't grow on tree's so work on your resume and get a job as soon as possible.
