The .303 Enfield was designed from the get-go with a .311 bore, requiring .311 bullets.
I've loaded the 303 for years and get excellent accuracy from No1, No4, and No5 rifles. The No4 Mk1 (T) sniper variant was a very successful and accurate weapon.

Your talking about shooting a large caliber cartrige from a large rifle. Im talking about shooting a large caliber cartrige from a small rifle. I own a Jungle carbine. Like I said it will give you a pounding on your shoulder when you try to shoot it a lot. I go to the range and shoot 200 to 300 rounds at a time. Cant do it with this No 5. And in spite of what was posted before the impact point steps from the left to the right on my Jungle carbine when it heats up. A cool little rifle. Hey if you can find one buy it. But I would rather shoot the M1 Carbine.

There's going to be more felt recoil when the rifle gets lightened up and still using the same ammo.
Same said of many sported No1's and No4's.
IMHO ,
A good comparison would be with the Mosin 91/30 and the M44 , both 7.62x54r.
Also with the shorter barrel , the M44 is well known for it's fireball at the muzzle as unburnt powder is still igniting after leaving the barrel . Hense the No5 flashider...

OK, I finally got around to looking under the hard guard at the barrel shank. There are lightening flutes on it! I have a real JC!!!!
Now to find some ammo and see if the thing will shoot! I have a slip on butt pad so I don't think the recoil is going to be a big deal. I can't wait to shoot it.

I know of people who can shoot heavy recoiling rifles all day long and it doesn't bother them. I wish I could say that but I can't. I opine that it may have to do with muscle structure, upper body strength and just plain what one is used to. I will say that I CAN take more recoil that I could when I was younger, but that has more to do with soft butt pads and a good shooting vest. I ain't proud.

You have to remember the Jungle carbine had a lot of cuts on it to make it lighter. If your rifle has all these cuts your cooking with oil. If not you might want to pass on it. Remember this Rifle is basicly a cut down version of an Enfield. Unlike the M1 Carbine which was manufactured as a small gun. Yes well the No 5 have the hard rubber from 60-70 some odd years ago that are narrow than the butt plate that really pin point the hit
