Ok, I decided to post this here, because I am guessing this is where the majority of people look in the military firearms. Of Enfield, Mauser, and AK-47, this sub category of Mosin has the most pages of posts.
I have read about cleaning out corrosive ammo with Windex on a couple other posts. What I don't understand, is how the ammonia is supposed neutralize the salts in the corrosive ammo? And how is the corrosive ammo considered corrosive. What makes it "corrosive", the primers or powders? Is the ammonia supposed to clean out the copper from the bullet? I'm kind of at a loss of the best thing to use. If you guys can recommend some name brands I could find in a store somewhere, then I'd be happy to know. The reason I am asking is coming.
I shot my M44, M91/30 and my Enfield about 2 weeks ago, shooting milsurp out of them all. I just got my new Turk Mauser and ammo finally, and shot it. I cleaned out my Mauser. I decided, hey, I'll take a look at my other ones and make sure they're still nice and clean. Well there was some light dirtyness is the best way to describe it in all three that I shot 2 weeks ago. Not a lot either, and it was situated down in the first 1/3 of the barrel closest to the muzzle. I cleaned them thoroughly with a can of gun scrubber after I shot them. I sprayed it in the barrel, and ran a patch through and soaked it all up after I ran just a copper brush through it, then did it all again. Ran another one in behind it dry, and it came out nice and clean. I figured, hell, this stuff works great! Just looking for some input, advice, dos and don'ts with corrosive ammo.
actually the ammonia in windex does nothing for the corrosive but rather its the water in the windex that helps, it does however help with the copper fouling
