I voted for the 20ga. But I would love to own a 16ga. semi-auto shotgun.
I haven't seen 16ga. ammo in years around here.
My Grandfather, my Mothers Father had a Remington 16ga, he said was mine when he died, but another daughter got into his house and took everything he had and her
brothers and sisters didn't say any thing because she wasn't as well off as they were.

If you buy ammo online, then I would say the legendary 16ga. If you're going to rely on wal-mart to supply your ammo, then I would say the 20ga. I own a 20ga, and love it.
Obviously for target/practicing the 20ga. Hell, for practice and target even a .410 can be a hell of a lot of fun to shoot; In the right configuration that is? lol

ive had a 16 for years, great shell, but they do not carry ammo for it everywhere. if they do it aint cheap. personally, a 12ga will do anything a 16, or 20 will, and usually cheaper shells.
I voted 20, ammo is easy to find and cheap. i think one shop close to home has 16 gauge, and its not all that cheap. Personally though i would just use a 12
In my area 20ga. cost about double more than 12ga. I just bought a 20ga. 4 weeks ago and every where I've looked 20ga. is $10.00plus a box versus $6.75 to 7.96 for 12ga.

volume. 12ga shells are bought in huge quantities, and it helps keep prices down. for sticker shock, go price .410 shells. 12ga is simply the best all around choice, with light loads it is as soft shooting as a light loaded 20. the 16 and 12 are nearly identical, except the 12 can carry a slightly heavier shot charge.

+1 Same here! I vote 20 because of lower recoil though.
I got my Rem 870 in 16 gauge back when only the 12 gauge was required to use steel shot for waterfowl. Now, all gauges are so limited. But the 16 is still a sweet shooter. Mine is Full Choke, and has (I swear!) taken the top of a squirrel's punkin' head clean off from the ears up! Surprised me as much as him - but I got to laugh about it . . .
Now THAT is a tight pattern!
