Personally, I have the membership with Sportsmansguide and am very happy with it. Yes, I know, to each there own. lol

But I don't think the same guy owns them both? I'll have to look into it. OK, did a little research, no, they don;t appear to be but I'll keep looking for definitive proof either way, as I'm real curious about now. lol

I did find on Cheaper than Dirts site it says the CTD trademares is a registered trademark of Direct Marketing. Also FWIW, the SPG site has an About us section that talks about the owner where as CTD doesn't, and not that that means anything, lol and I would think if he owned both, he'd want people to know he does as some customers would want to have memberships at both? But as I said, you got me curious about it now and want to know? lol

One thing I'd add, the 5% may not seem like much, but it adds up. Also, members get special mailings and pricing on certain stuff that only they see. I've been a member @ SPG for a few years now and except for them not wanting to deal with the paperwork so I could buy a pellet gun and have it sent to Illinois, as Illinois deems them as a firearm, but other then that, I have no problems or complaints.

Also, SPG is the only place I've ever been able to return something no matter how long I've had it or how old it is, as long as I've had the receipt, as long as I didn't misuse or break it that is. And I returned something I had for 4 years. Who else would honor their stuff like that or for that long? Most places, you bought it, it's yours. lol

Cheaper Than Dirt has great prices, if they have in stock. Cabela's is way over priced, but I shop there, because they have most everything in stock. I bought Nikon Monarch 800 range finders off ebay for $80 less than what Cabela's had them for. I often use Cabela's as a pricing guide and buy elsewhere.

I don't know if anyone is still checking this thread but I've had no trouble with cheaper then dirt. Then again I haven't bought ammo or any gun related items from them. Though I did try to buy a ranger survival knife from them, it had a few goodies but what I really wanted it for was it was like $10 dagger shaped and had a removable para-cord handle. Thought it would be good if I ever needed a spear but they don't carry it anymore and it was on backorder when I ordered it.

Mornin ...... I was gonna order an item yesterday from CTD and the product was $12 and SHIPPING was $14+... I'll buy it local for $16 and save the $$$.. I prefer Midsouth Shooters. Good prices and shipping isn't tooooooo bad and delivery is amazing. Before someone asks Midsouth didn't have the item.. Customer service is great also.

I like Sportsmans Guide a lot. I bot about 7 rifles from them when they had them. I also used to stop in the store and ask what they had for ammo specials. They usually had broken cases, 50 cal boxes of odds and ends, unpopular type ammo that no one seemed to want, (I did cus I usually had those rifles). I once split a case of 750 rounds of 8x56r M95 Steyr rounds with a friend for $32 bucks. It was the old Nazi stuff and we shot up a lot of it. The attack vests they have are a pretty good deal for only $65 bucks.
I have tried CTD but usually I could find what they have somewhere else for less money.

Now that CTD is pretty much out of CEMTE stuff I don't seem to find what I want there anymore. I went through a kick of really liking them a year ago or so and it's slowly diminishing to nothing. It seems I bought what I wanted that they had now they really have anything for me. Never bought firearms from them but pretty much everything else. But like the Captn I usually can find it cheaper somewhere else.
Never bought from Sportsmans guide but they have a good site and a wide selection of surplus and other goodies so I forsee me buying from them in the future.

The reason for high shipping is most goes thru UPS & Fed-X?
I placed a order back east to buy a battery contacter from the manufacturer a $20 part that would have cost over $50 in UPS fees, ended up modifying the piece of equipment so I could use a NAPA part that cost more but was locally available.
The Post Office is terrable at loseing/pilfering and or damageing your stuff
the only way thru the post office would be to insure it, or track it as registerd mail
I lost $189 in wilson door cables thru priority mail, got the empty box with the $23 shipping label still attached all wrapped up in shrink wrap no damaged when received sticker either, priority mail buy's you no added security.

The thing i hate about CTD is their bait and switch tactics. They sent me a December catalog and I called the day I received it. This was on the 6th, and all the ammo prices were double what the catalog stated. The catalog stated, "New Lower Prices on All Ammo." That makes the customer think the ammo was just lowered. The Wolf 7.62 x39 was listed at $3.98 when their website had it at $9.99. The S&B was listed cheaper than I've seen it in 7.62 x 54r for a year or more. I emailed them about this and they stated that all the prices were listed at that rate in Oct. and that is when they had the catalog printed. I asked for the dates that the Wolf 7.62 x 39 was $3.98 in Oct, so I could check that with some old receipts. I also inquired about the S&B because I know I've haven't seen the 7.62 x54 SP listed in the $14 range in a long time. I ordered some S&B in Oct. and it was over $16. I know they are lying and they know it. I got not reply after I laid down these questions. The bottom line is the prices have never been as low as they state in their catalog most of the time. It doesn't take two months to get a catalog printed. If the prices were that off and printing took that long, most companies wouldn't print one. They depend on the unsuspecting customer to get a catalog and then call to place an order. They receive the higher price and are too embarassed to say no. It's bait and switch and I hope everyone remembers what they are doing to us during this up swing in the market. I've asked them to remove me from their mailing list.

I enjoy looking through their catalog but I definitley noticed the "new lower ammo prices" Pure BS. I kept checking back on the site to see if they just hadn't changed them online yet. nope Bait and switch classic sales play.

Yup. And how about the square deal shipping? Deal for who?? Sure as heck isn't the customer. The catalog goes right in the trash bin. After I rip my name off the cover and order form. Try Midsouth Shooters Supply. nice folks to deal with. Midway USA is great also.. Like the NRA roundup

I had good luck with CTD, but you do need to buy a bulk in order to get good shipping cost. Shipping was very fast and I have had no product problems. They were one of the only places I could find everything I needed without being on backorder or out of stock on everything I needed. I agree with earlier post about watching sportsmans guide as many of the products especially the milsurp items are cheaper or you get 2 or 3 of the same thing for the price of one at CTD.

Overall, I would def re-order from them.

Cheaper Than Dirt is hardly cheaper than anything. Have you seen some of the prices there? Its ridiculous. They should rename their website
price-and-one-half.com
