| Cheaper than Dirt Online
This is a great website internet store but it seems that everything I want is in a backorder mode. Great site but if you can't get what you want--why bother--this goes for cartridges, cleaning supplies, etc

I noticed that last night when I was trying to order some stuff. I think it may be inventory time. They don't want to count it so the customer goes with out what they need until their inventory is over. And they wonder why we go else where. You might give Midway a try. CTD used to be really great until the owners quit listening to what their customers wanted. They also have a couple of other co's, one builds\imports shooting accessories like slings and mounts and the other is a hunting guide\booking service. I prefer to deal with Grafs on most of my stuff anymore.

In my book, ever since they went to the supposedly "square deal" shipping, it costs a hell of a lot more then it use to. Billy, sorry to hear of your troubles with sportsmansguide, I've never had that problem with them. Usually, If it's out of stock, it will say it when you place it in your cart if its in or out of stock. Unless their inventory is off. It will also tell you if it ships direct from the manufacturer that it will take a little more time.. My only problem I've ever had with SPG is them not wanting to do paperwork to sell a pellet gun to a member in Illinois. Kind of irritated me. Especially knowing they are a sponsor of the American Rifleman TV show and members of the NRA. The last thing you'd think they'd want to do is prevent anyone from their 2nd Amendment rights... Hell, I even had a laser boresighter for like 4 years. Could never get the thing to center in the boresighter itself and they took it back, after 4 years. As long as I had my receipt, or anyone does, and it isn't from abuse or misuse, they take stuff back. I will say this also, sometimes, the item you're looking at is also being sold by them on eBay and sometimes for less and cheaper shipping. So if you or anyone does buy from them, check their eBay store for what you want also... I'll go wherever I can if they have what I'm looking for and are reasonable. The last place I always look is Brownell's and that's only because they are the most expensive.

First off, all of this is my own experience in buying parts and accessories for MY guns. Cheaper than dirt is designed for a bulk purchase. This can be good or bad for most. I have orderd quite a bit from them and eventually figured out if you want something, you have to wait untill you want a lot of things and buy them all at once. For example I made a purchase of about 45.00, shipping was around 12. I later made a purchase of 140.00 and the shipping was 13. therefore cheap. I also Like the fact you can get email alerts when things become available. I've used this twice to great success. Sportsmans is always out of stock on surplus gear. I have yet to order from them b/c of this. They do carry the most surplus of anyone I can find though. Thanks for the tip on the ebay store. they have things in stock on ebay and out on their website??? Midway is O.K. average prices and slow shipping. You can usually find it cheaper than what they are charging. I bought a collapsable stock from them and a few other things and later found it cheaper. Same goes for Florida gun works. I love them all though so don't get me wrong. I could never find most of this stuff locally. |

CTD has some good things for shooters. One of the best is their kit that lets you convert a US Army ammo box into a secure locked ammo box. It's about $6.00 per each. Kit consists of two O-rings, a press-washer and a 7/16ths stud with a wide head and a hole drilled through the shaft perpendicular to the long axis at the tip of the stud. The .50 caliber ammo box and the oldstyle .30 caliber ammo box both have a 7/16ths hold in the locking handle. What you do is take a 7/16ths metal drill bit, insert it through that hole, and drill a hole in the body of the box behind the hole. Deburr the hole, take the stud and put one O-ring on it, and insert it through the hole in the ammo box, head inside. Put the other O-ring on the shaft and slide it all the way down, then push on the push-washer and push it all the way down. Use a socket to press the washer all the way on. If you've done it right, the studwill fit exactly through the hole in the locking handle and allow you to put a lock through it, thus securing your ammunition against kids in the house. (My description of this and why I set up my ammo storage boxes that way impressed the judge I had to appear before to get my pistol permit no end. But then, I also got a snort out of him when the assistant D.A. asked me, "Can you think of any circumstance under which you would shoot someone in your own home?" and I replied, having earlier answered the judge's question about how my firearms are stored, "It would be kind of hard for me to shoot anyone in my own home when my pistols are kept unloaded and secure in hardcases with locks on them, which are locked in a steel US Army carpenter's trunk with two combination locks on it, which is locked in the attic, with the ammunition kept in locked metal ammo boxes in the furnace room, now wouldn't it?" You see, I have a mechanically adept 5 year old, and I don't even get guns out when he's in the house. I would not put it past him to figure out how to load a pistol, and a kid that young simply can't be trusted around firearms unless an adult is right there with him, and really not even then. He's just too young to understand the consequences.) |

Cyrano--Glad I live in TX--we don't have to answer questions like that CTD has shipped quickly to me, but is actually somewhat pricey these days I think. Been happy with the turn around time, but I don't order the back ordered stuff. Cor-Bon has been experiencing some delays with their ammo lately for what I've been ordering for some reason. Buffalo Bore has shipped relatively quickly.

cheaper than dirt is for the gun owner on a budget. it is not exspensive and if you are getiing shafted by a high price or two its your own fault for not checking elswhere. the beauty of capitalism is competition.

| I've bought more than I'd ever admit to my wife from CTD. I also have been a customer of Sportsman's Guide for years as well, including being a member of their "Buyers Club". As far as ammo is concerned, buy it at Sportsman's Guide. Some prices are VERY good. CTD has kinda melted into the background once I started SERIOUSLY looking at prices. Good Luck! |

CTD used to have good stuff. Like the Alpeflage pants for $3.50. Good for workin around the house or 4-wheeling. Now everything is more expensive, and there isn't as much to choose from.

| Senior Member | Their shipping is VERY high. If you order anythinf before September 07 use this promo code: 1885-6508. It is good for $10 off and can be used as many times as you like. Helps offset the high shipping costs.

Sportsman Guide's shipping is to high but they always have what I order. But never order there boots that have there name on them you'll be disappointed in the cheap chit leather they use. I've never ordered anything from CTD and don't plan to...A.H |

I've had good luck with Sportsman's, Cabelas, and CTD (ordering mostly ammo and some accessories). Shipping is pretty steep, so it's usually cheaper for me to drive to CTD if I want to buy a bunch of stuff.
