| Stop the insanity ![]() | I Hate Stupid Drivers
So this afternoon I was driving back from visiting my parents 4 hours away. I was happy because I found a new, more scenic, less traffic route to take to go see them. I was enjoying the bluebonnets and yellow roses and listening to some good tunes in my freshly washed and waxed car. Not too pleased that I paid $30 to top off my tank when it was 1/2 full, but I was happy I had only used 1/4 tank and I was almost to Houston. I was on 290 about to hit the home stretch when some young prick driver pisses me off. First of all, I'm very polite on the road. I move over when ppl are trying to merge into the right lane, I don't tailgate, and I get out of the way when I see ppl want to go faster than me. You know, common courtesy defensive driving type things. I was driving in the right lane and there are a few scatter cars entering from the ramp. I couldn't move over because the people in the left lane were going too fast for me to merge. Anyway I figured that since I was ahead of the car trying to enter the freeway and there was 8 or 9 free car lengths behind me that the car could merge safely behind me. I don't know what the heck he was thinking, but he sped up and I guess was trying to get better lane position in front of me. There was only about 1.5 car lengths in front of me, so I thought it made sense for him to merge behind. I didn't pick up or slow down my speed because I am already on the road and I have the right of way. He doesn't slow down to merge behind me, instead he sits right next to me driving the same speed as me until the lane runs out and he has to slow down or run into the wall. Then he honks as he has to sacrifice his speed to merge behind me like he should have anyway. Then he proceeds to tailgate me and give me the finger. Oh my gosh that hurt my feelings so bad. *sarcasm* He tails me for about 10 seconds then he gets out of the lane to go around me and then proceeds to cut me off with that 1.5 car lengths distance in front of me, and hit his brakes. I mean WTF?? I saw where this was going from a mile away so I slowed my speed. I had the inkling to get into the other lane when he cut me off and show him what my car could do against his Scion TCrap but I restrained myself. I don't play friggin childish games. Especially not on the road at dangerous speeds. I slow my speed because I value my life much more than he values his life or the lives of the 3 other ppl riding with him. And it would be my life that was lost and not some dumb nut that doesn't know how to yield when he's entering a ramp. I wanted to pick up my phone to call 911 and give the cops his license plate. I mean who does that chit?? Probably some young dumb teenage boy. So that kind of pissed me off. /rant

Besides, if he came at me like that in person (not in cars) he'd have one less head.

Glad you're alright TT. The best course of action is to snap a pic of his license plate if possible and call the cops immediately. That's one of the reasons I've decided to come off of the road-too many a**holes with too many distractions to deal with.

texas t, mam you did the right thing! i'm also a truckdriver and i see those idiots every day the best thing to do is what toolman said. get a picture of their plates or if you cant at least get their plate# and call the police and let them handle the idiot. i call the police on these fools almost everyday. i've been driving semi's for thirty yrs. and only had two wrecks, and both of them were caused by idiot car drivers. so thats why i dont mess with them anymore!

I've been in the ER when car crashes come in so I've handled my fair share of bad wrecks. That's why I decided to let him have the "victory". If it makes him feel better to do that stuff rather than go about his business then by all means he can have it.

You did right TT. Good driving and good thinking on your part. Take care. Bro. Bob, that wasn't a very friendly reply.

You did the right thing, TT. I have on many occasions called the state patrol (or if they exit, the local PD) on reckless drivers (and I mean reckless, not just 'not signaling' or 'made a simple mistake'). The police are happy to deal with this and you shouldn't hesitate to call them when this kind of thing happens.

TexasT, you did the right thing. You don't need to get into it with a jackass driver. If he keeps driving like that the state police or the Txas Rangers or somebody will bust him for you; and if you're lucky you'll get to see it. Years ago, I had occasion to drive from New Hampshire out to Syracuse, NY. I was cruising along on I-90 West right at the speed limit, clear road with no traffice to mention, and a Cadillac came roaring up behind me. He waited until the last second to jump into the passing lane and blow on by like I was standing still. He had to be doing at least 100 mph. He cut back into the travel lane and rapidly disappeared around a curve ahead of me. "That clown is just begging for a speeding ticket," I thought to myself. "Where's a state trooper when you need one?" About 5 miles up the road I came around a long, shallow curve. And there I saw it: the Caddy that had blown by me was pulled off the side of the road by a State Police interceptor, its lights a-flashin' and the state trooper standing back of the driver's side window with his ticket book out, writing away. I got a look at the driver's face as I cruised past. He looked kind of grim. I figure that the way speeding fines were structured then, he had to be looking at something between $250 and $300 in fines just for the speed, plus more money if the cop cited him for reckless driving as they sometimes do for really excessive speeds, plus points on his license toward suspension or revocaton. Maybe even jail time, if he was a repeat offender. Sometimes the universe does do something nice, just for you. I just hope it did something about that miserable swine who almost hit you, T. |

Cyrano, I've definitely seen things like that happen. Sporty little BMWs cut you off. Clearly they're not from the area or they would know better than to speed in certain areas. See them a few miles down the road pulled over. I love to see that kind of stuff. Now you guys have me wishing I HAD called the cops. I mean that really was reckless. There's no reason to cut somebody off because you're mad then slam on the brakes. He really could have killed me. No telling what he does when other ppl make him mad on the road. Next time I will definitely call.

Was patroling one night and my cruiser windshield got splattered with eggs from oncoming car. Hits my blues and pulled car over. Kids almost wet their pants. I use to love to park off side of expressway in bushes during rush hour and catch em passing slower traffic in emergency lane. got 15 to 20 without taking cruiser out of park. People drove by honking their horns going "That away officer". Caught one clown, same spot, different set of violators, top the hill, saw me and wormed his way back into traffic. Waited for him and stepped out in front of his car, motioned for him to join our party, he did with license in hand. Improper use of emergency lane. Best evidence to take to court is video camera. I've gotten people like you described and asked complainant to come to court to testify, then they don't want to get involved, so what could I do. I didn't witness situation.

What do the cops do if you call them and tell them about a reckless driver? Especially in a place like Houston where the perp could be at any of the 4 corners by the time the cops respond. Do they just track down their license and send them a warning?

| Stop the insanity ![]() | Only because I forgot my pistol in my apartment lol. I was thinking that was the wrong situation to forget my gun. What if he was trying to make me crash and I had to pull over? I left really early Saturday morning and my brain wasn't working for me to remember it. Even though I sat it out next to the door lol.

I've got to admit that I worked in Texas for a few months last year and some of the driving was attrocious with no respect for other drivers whatsoever. Some people really need to be reminded about what their mirrors are for and every second or third driver seems to be on the damned phone! It is sometimes easier driving in Third World Countries....................I know!

wunhunglo everybody seems to be in a hurry today, I was on a route for 26 years and I drove some what wrecklessly to get to where I was going, it wasn't that I wanted to, it was because I had to get my route ran and customers were expecting me around a certain time. I didn't have a choice, it was because of the work load I had. I get sick thinking about it now, never will I run a route again !!! Lord willing...A.H |

Lane hoggers were the worst; being British it is against our nature to bend the rules & undertake, whereas around Houston it was the Norm. Inconsiderate drivers who hogged the outside lanes, rather than move back in to an empty lane.....Ya áll got me frustrated so many times!
