Gun for the girl

Ok, My girlfriend loves to shoot, but owns no guns of her own. Her dad has a few and i have a few. My dad has a ton, but he is mostly a shotgun guy or i would get a gun off of him probably. now the question is what kind of 22 would y'all suggest. I have a ruger 10/22 that i absolutely love, but she would not really care what she has. Only guidelines are that she LOVES black guns. Anything synthetic, look at a row of beautiful walnut rifles with one blued synthetic she will always say she likes it best. So i am thinking something like 10/22, 597, model 60, etc. I want a semi auto, and i don't wanna spend a ton. what will give her the best bang for MY buck lol....

thanks for the input.

You can get the AR-15 platform in a .22 LR chambering, I do know that. There's a version of the AK-47 called the Krinkov out there, too. But your best bet might be to pick up a used, blued 10/22 and put an aftermarket pseudo-military stock set on it for her; there are a couple of different types out there. Toss on sling swivels and a black nylon sling, a Picatinny Rail and a boss-looking scope in black with mil-dot reticules (preferably with flip-up lens caps and big turret knobs), and it sounds like something she'll fall in love with. Point out when you give it to her that you customized it just for her, and I'll bet it gets you at least a long, sloppy soul kiss. Don't forget to buy some medium to hi-cap magazines for it, at least three of them, and a brick of ammo to go with it.

Good post above, AR 15 with the .22 upper;, you can always upgrade later to the .223 after she's used to the little one and wants a bigger bang for her bucks.

I own a 10/22 and LOVE it. I've not read a lot of great things about the Rem 597, but have read some good things about the Marlin Mod 60. Here's a few that might interest her...which should interest you...and maybe her interest in you too....lol. Good Luck!!

I would say a 10/22 just for modability and its lower priced than something such as an AR-15 chambered in .22. You can buy plenty of different kinds of stocks for it and if you're really serious with this girl, later you could hand it down to a kid, maybe?

C'mon Sell33, I'd need lots more info on what I'm getting before I part with one or more of my guns.

You know, the usual stuff; what sort of condition she's in, what type or model and age, modern, antique or curio, how many owners, how does she handle, has she been refinished or factory refurbished, long, medium or short butt, does she come with optical sights, any modifications, any accessories, etc. etc.

I would go with the Marlin , Savage or Mossberg in a synthectic stocked 22.
The Ruger synthectic stocked 10/22 cost a lot more than these mentioned.
Mossberg as added to there exsisting line of firearms and added new models.
take a look see.
Heres a few Mossbergs...A.H

Get her one of the new Ruger Chargers? Seeing as how you got that nice Ruger logo as your avatar, may as well go with what you like. lol Let us know what you go with though?

Looks like AH gave you some good info! I would first look at the marlin modle 60. It will probubly cost less than the 10/22.

Why did Ruger 10/22 get so popular and why so many accessories for them ?
Marlin 60's have been around forever, but you don't see the accessories for them like you do the Ruger.
Don't take me wrong I like Rugers, I'm just curious...A.H

At my age, it is probably better for me not to trade; I think I'll just keep my guns and try & live long enough to get their benefit into my retirement.

I'd definitely go with the Ruger 10/22 over any of the other choices. Probably because I have one, but also because of the reliability compared to other rifles.
