Ya'lls power bills ??

I'm just wondering if anybody else has had an insane increase.

For the past ten or so years, my monthly power bills averaged $86-$95/month. Like $105 being the highest I ever remember.

This January was $200.99. February was $221.24.

We haven't changed a thing as far as our 'power consumption' habits.

Has anybody else seen an increase? Is it possible I have some problem?

I'm just asking. I have to take time off from work to drive to the closest Duke power office to speak to an actual human.

My older brother is an attorney that works on utility cases. That is his specialty. He warns me of grand increases in the future. Hold on to your wallets!

Electricity is generated by power made from coal or oil. The price of these goes up, the price of electricity goes up. Diesel is over $4.00 a gallon right now. What is heating oil? My wife pays it, so I do not know. But all the utilities are asking for rate increases.

Combining electricity and natural gas, I'm getting about the same cost as yours over the border in Tennessee.

Yeah. I use combo of natural gas, electricity and some LP gas logs in my fireplace to 'knock the chill off'. Guess it's not just me. I just have a hard time dealing with the power going from an average of say $90 to $127 in November...to $138 in December then $200 and $221.

Jeeze. We all bitch about the cost of gas daily, but this is ridiculous.

My combined Electricity/water bill for Feb: $247.20.
For March, it is $164.36.

Winter really kills me. But when I had Propane it was much worse! I had $an average of $50 electric, free water, but the gas would run me $250 or more per month during winter! That danged singlewide had NO insulation, and leaked like a sieve.

I've changed most of my lights to CFL, and dry my clothes on the line - I don't use the drier at all.
Had a water leak in the main toilet - it ran constantly - made a big increase in water bill! I fixed that and the water usage dropped. Come summer and the need for watering the grass and plants - it'll go up again.

Recently the electric co-op gave me a rebate check - about $3 worth . . .
Yeah, I can get a McDees burger and celebrate . . .

Rates have been going up steadily here in the Northeast for years, but they've almost doubled in the last two years. I think I have all of four light bulbs left in this house; everything else is fluorescent and I plan to switch to LEDs as soon as they become available. Even with the change from incandescents to fluorescents, my electric bill is out of sight, and the oil bill is worse. America is in a state of stagflation, and it won't get better any time soon.

All the companies are nickel/ scratch that, dollar billing us to death. Natural gas, gasoline, electricity, propane, diesel. They are all lining their pockets.

You have to watch those power companies. At my old house the bill averaged 150-200, then one day my parents who were paying my bills at the time called me up and asked why the hell my light bill was 500.00. Come to find out the meter reader had misread my usage. They came and redid it and it was average.

Funny how they always misread in their favor. I've never gotten a 12.00 light bill on accident.

Point is if your bill is abnormal call the power company and complain and ask what your consumption was for the month.

Power in my new house is about the same as my old one except it is about twice the size. "well insulated" Just me and my fiancee live in it so we keep the vents closed in bedroom 2 &3 so our central air dosen't have to run much.

I have a 1000 sq. ft. apartment and spend roughly $25-$30/month for Gas/Electric and about $12/month for water.

I just paid $120 for an empty house with the temp set at 55°, finally shut the heat off a week ago. Propane at the new house has been filled twice now, once in November and once in February at about $800 the first time and $600 the second time, which works out to $280 a month. Won't use much in the spring and summer, but winter really sucks.

Seven, in north Florida, we see temps in the twenties/thirties for at least two months - it gets chilly! I'm glad I don't live further north.
We generally even see the high teens a couple days!
Luckily this house is much better insulated - but it's still a doublewide, so not that great.
