Actually, Canada has some huge oil reserves (maybe some of the largest in the world)...it's locked in tar sands, but they're working on extracting it (unlike us in ANWR). It takes burning coal to extract this, I believe -- effectively taking energy to make energy. We fly over these when we go NY or ORD - ANC -- think it's in Alberta.

I have seen several of boycott the gas station days come and go. the only way boycotting will work is if we pick 1 or 2 of the biggest importers of middle east oil. and boycott them completely. until they start to scream as loud as us.. remember that there are 2.5 Billion people in China and India bidding for the same oil as us..

I doubt that it will happen on a large enough scale to make a difference although I really wish it would. I've been listening to folks complain about spending 30-40 bucks to fill their tanks, try filling two 150 gal. tanks with 4.00\gal diesel.

In another post, Ivan had a great point..."more people on the road, the longer you sit in traffic, the more money for gas." Get the trucks off the roads, people may spend less time in traffic... plus those big trucks are not burning as much diesel sitting in traffic either.
LARRYO1970, how do you think the trailers get to the railyard?
they're taken there by TRUCKS. and how do you think the trailers get
from the railyard to their delivery destination. thats right by TRUCKS.

if the shippers start going by rail with more freight it will mean everything will cost more. plus it will take a lot longer to get the goods delivered.

i'm a truckdriver, and when you can pickup a load in say n.y. and in 48
hrs later being unloaded in ca. there's no way that the railroad can compete with that.

plus look at all the perishables that are shipped every day that would go bad on railcars.

what we need to do is build more refineries, do you know that there has not been a new refinery built in the US in over 30 yrs. plus we need to
start drilling in alaska and off the coast. there is more oil in alaska than
can be used in 200 yrs. up there.

we need to get these wimpy republicans to show some backbone and stand up to the tree hugging enviros. and get our own oil production up again. we don't need to be importing so much oil.

and anotherthing is to get the govt. to temp. drop the fed. tax on oil& gas
they recieve almost .75 cents per gal. of gas. and they talk about the big proffit of the oil co's.

sorry about my rant, but i'm about fed up with this chit!

I can't says I blame the truckers one dam bit personally. Heard on a news break that the politicians/congress want to know, with the U.S. oil companies reporting millions in profits, why they then would need 18 million in tax breaks ( something like that)? They've asked it, now will they not get fooled buy the BS excuses they're about to get.

1. Don't take my idea personally, that is why I put it out there to get ideas. If one person knew the solution, we wouldn't be here.

2. Yes, we need to build refineries and Nuclear Power plants... I've already said that.

3. I agree completely on the foreign oil problem, we need to do it here and not be so reliant on the Arabs. Again, another point I made earlier.

4. We are all fed up with the crap we've been dealt by our politicians.

I was out yesterday on I-35. Usually wall-to-wall semis. Very few were out last night. We'll see if it makes any difference.
