I have always had a love for bolt action military rifles. I want to pick up a 1903 but im kind of worried about ammo. The 1903 uses a 30-03 round right? Now that cant be a common round cuz ive never seen or heard of it out side of the 1903 rifle. My main question is did they ever make the 1903 in the more common 30-06 or is there conversion to make it a 30-06. If there isnt where can you find the right ammo and is it affordible?
The first ones did use a slightly varied 30-06 round that was a little different but mainly just had a round nose bullet. Most of the 1903 and 1903A3 rifles you will run across use the stately old 30-06 round Or 30-goverment-06. Same round. Ammo will not be a problem and even mil surplus can still be found.
So, if ammo worries are holding up your purchase of one of my favorite rifles then go ahead and buy one. Order some ammo and enjoy one of the most accurate battle rifles out there!

ok thanks wiki had a page on the 1903 and said that it used a 30-03 round that was only used for like 3 years before being replaced by the 30-06 or something to that extent. Thanks for the info.
