Does anyone know whats the going rate for a 30+ year old Winchester model 94 would be in good shape? I got one and need to know what to ask for it, here locally they are in some shops for 400+ why so high?
Thirty plus find out what year it was made. Win. started cutting corners in 63 or 64 and their guns became, as a result, less desirable. The older ones with solid steel receivers and milled parts are worth more. check out Winchester Pre '64 Model 94 (Win. Model 94) That is the only reason I know for charging that much for a used mod. 94.

Another good resource is to go to a Half Priced Books store and see if they have a Blue book of gun values. That should give you a good idea of what it is worth.

Winchester has not been known for particulary good management
and particularly good business decisions for a long period of time.
As someone else suggested, it was a better firm and a better product before the 1962/63 period.
Collector interest also fuels demand for pre-1962/63 products.
I believe either Savage or Mossberg is picking up the model-94 .30-.30 style. You might check their websites. I have neither seen nor handled the new gun.
