I went to Louisville tonight to hear Colin Powell speak. I have always looked up to him for his military service, and his time as Sec. of State. At the end, this guy in his early twenties busted in with a bullhornn as the crowd started to leave and started cussing and yelling that Powell was a mass murderer and war criminal since his time in Vietnam til now. I yelled at the guy, saying "get out of here you son of a ___." My girlfriend was very emberrassed, and all my friends said I should have just sat there and kept my mouth shut. Was I out of line, or do you think I did the right thing? This has bothered me the rest of the night, and I'd like some honest opinions.
Nah, I probably would have done the same. Why the hell does he have to be there if he doesn't want to hear Colin speak? Shoulda given him a nice kick in the ass too
You had every right to voice your opinion/opposition to his heckling. Dont let your friends bring you down over it. They will either accept you for who you are, how you felt about it, or not.
I won't offer an opinion as to the hecklers' statements or yours as i was not there.
You each practiced your rights as Americans, feel good about that! And... if that other guy was an A-hole, know that you are more right than he is .

+1
I wouldn't lose alot of sleep. Sounds like you may have done the right thing. Hopefully the guy left.
The only additional advice I'd offer is that, in general, when carrying CCW, I'm alot more polite, docile, and quieter than I might otherwise be. In this particular situation, I believe it important to avoid trivial conflict which could escalate into something I really don't want.

Mr. Powell is not responsible for many of the actions taken by the United States Government in the foreign policy area either diplomatically or militarily.
I wish he were running for president instead of the three candidates we now have jamming the airways with mostly nonsensical commercials.
Personally, I would like to attend one of his speeches to learn his thoughts on many current issues and trends.

+1 as well. Would have liked to see him running for pres on the D ticket -- we would have gotten a decent choice to make.

I agree with the others that you had the right to express your opinion under the circumstances. If I wasn't carrying I would have had something to say too. If I was carrying I would sit quietly and watch and let security handle it.

I just let hecklers have their day. It's when it turns physical that I stand up. I think Colin Powell can stand some heat now and then. He's a big man.
... sounds like the heckler got what he deserved. JSosbe, I'm not so sure I would have been as polite as you were. The idiot had to make an anti-war statement to a retired General? Key word... he's retired!
Typical...
Good job by the way...

Right on Nat,right on!!!!!!!
Mr. Powel is a dam good man, better than any we have going right now!!!!!
Colin,
If that Jack A** can voice his opinion, then so can you. I would have had a few things to say to him as well ; perhaps a suggestion of a long walk off of a short pier.

I am a little surprised you were the only one, and after you said something no one backed you up. I would have been right behind you, or if my reaction times were fast enough, right in front of you
I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over that.

Quite so. I don't see thing one wrong with what you did, or any reason to be embarassed.
From what I know of his career, Powell has been an exemplary officer and commander. He has no real scandals in his past, his record is clean, he's well-spoken, intelligent, and got thrown under a bus by an administration that didn't know what they were losing.
He also served under Lt. General Henry Emerson in Korea, another man who really seemed to exemplify the military at its finest. Looks like a lot of that influence took.
Powell was also never averse to considering peaceful solutions to conflicts first, while still keeping the option of force available. Oh yeah...and the Powell Doctrine. I've never seen a better list of questions for whether to use the military in a conflict. We sure could have used that before our current screwup.
*Sigh*, now there's a Republican I'd vote for in a heartbeat. Where have all the ones like him gone? I honestly believe he was treated contemptably by people who were supposed to be supporting him.

I might consider a loud bullhorn to be an assault and I might find it necessary to defend myself from hearing injury.
