.308, .300 Win Mag, .243, all have proven to be fine deer rifles.

Well I would have to say that I use either my 30-06 or my .45 Muzzleloader(mostly just this one tho). I only hunt brush or dense woods.

Alot depends on where I'm hunting and the type of hunting I'm doing. I use both pistol and rifle configurations in the TC Encore mostly. My main pistol barrel is a 6.5x57R AI, with a .308 in reserve. Even with a rifle I prefer to hunt as close as I can get, so I use a 7BRM, which is a imp. version of 7-30 waters, and has plenty of power and PBR for my needs.

Yes turner i will concede that the 275 rigby and the 7x57 are exactly the same and what a great little round it is, to bad it does not get the respect that it deserves. JUst my opinion.

However muzleloaders with electronic primes are not allowed. Kinda of dumb if you ask me.

I know other states don't as well, but, I sure hope you don't have the DOUBLE whammy! On a brighter note.... I believe that a rifled barrel might just give you 150yd capability. | Yeah, In many ways the way that we hunt here with shotguns make it more dangerouse. You see gernally in Iowa the gun Deer season is pretty short Five days for one season and 9 days for another (there are 2 muzzleloader seasons that are separate, the early is short, less than a week I think, and the late season is like 2 weeks late December and early January).
So in iowa durning the shotgun season, which also allows the use of handguns and muzzleloaders, most people hunt in groups of 5 or more hunters. one or two push a timber area while the others post and the posters get most of the shots.
It is by far the most dangerouse and deadly season for hunter safety in the state. Add to that the idiots that are running deer from section to section with pickups and driving like mad to get ahead of running deer and deer hunting in Iowa gets kind of a bad rep. Now they have for the last two or threee years allowed hunting with rifles in the bottom part of the state but only for a special late season antlerless only season to help bring the deer population in that part of the state back in line. Perhaps over time things will change but to allow rifle hunting in the state you would almost have to change the culture of deer hunting in our state. I am for using rifles for deer hunting but I don't know if the same kind of hunting would be more or less with rifles, I think I would be a little more worried. I guess I would be okay with it if it was restricted to single shots and bolt guns, I don't know I am not an expert I guess.

It can be loaded way down or up to 190 grainers. (where u can find them) It shoots flat and hits hard. The deer didnt know what hit em. | LOL for a guy that calls himself "Magnumsrule" you worry about recoil from a 25/06 ??? ROFLMAO Then you turn around and talk about a 7MM Mag. ?? Sorry but it sounds incongruous to me.

I use a 308 mostly, but also like the 270 Win. and 30-30. I would have no problem using the 25/06 or the .243 on the Blacktails in my area if I had a rifle chambered for them.

Edit: the 25-06 seems to be an underestimated round. My hunting buddy doesn't understand why I "risk going with anything that small..." I have tried explaining what a sweet round it is but he never seems to hear me; or at least asks me about it every time. | Over the years I have use the .243 which did fine, and took deer out to 300yds with it. I've killed deer with a 7mmRM, 300WinMag, 30-06, 338WM, and .280Rem. The .280 is my 1st choice. 30-06 probably second. No "magnum" is needed for deer, but if you want to use one, have a ball...lots of ways to "get er done". I plan on next year seeing if I can take one with the 35 Whelen.
