The test I was talking about is currently at ~26,700 rounds of 9mm ammo. So far, the M&P Fullsize 9mm has had 2 jams, both were related to worn out springs. Each jam came when the spring had roughly 10k rounds through it. After the springs were replaced by S&W (free of charge), the gun continued to function perfectly.

The M&P has a lifetime warranty, and S&W considers worn springs and extractors normal wear and tear, thus it is covered under warranty.

Cool

Hello Everyone......hope alls' well in the land o' the free and home of the shooter. Going on 5000 rds + with the M/P 9mm and have had only two ftf's. I attribute both to the ammo I was using as it was re-loads from a local pro-ammo reload manufacturer. AND ...that's 2 out of over 2000 that I ran through the gun from that distributer. Still lovin this gun and would recomend it to anyone interested in a 9mm semi-auto. The "Uplula" handloader is deffinatley one of ...if not.....BEST magazine loader's out there and I highly recomend it to anyone that wants to give there finger's a permanent vacation from being sore from constant re-loading if they shoot alot. Even though the 9mm is probably the cheapest of the "stopping-size" rounds out there..certainly not the biggest or fastest...but "cheapest" which is why I went with the "9"...I've found my wallet lighter because of the 17 rd capacity and ease at which the "uplula' can reload the magazines. My girlfriend and I have found an interesting way to have fun at the range while still maintaining a "practice' routine. Take a regular blank sheet of printer paper 9 by 11 and with a magic marker and ruler 'create a tic-tac-toe board' You should wind up with @ 9...3.5....and 4 inch squares. Take turns with each person getting 2 shots (only) to claim a square. Both shots must go into the same square. If you miss your second shot at the square your first shot hit' or intended' it is considered "open" for the other person to go for. I think ya'll should grasp what I'm talking about. Having to make the second shot proves the intent of wanting that particular square!!...not just luck!!. This may require a highlighter to mark your shots/squares....but makes praticing a little more interesting and fun...of course distance/range is up to the ability of the 'shooters invovled.15 too 21 feet is decent for starters. Make one paper/board and go to a staples or whatever to make copy's......cheap and fun !!! losers buy a round of beers afterwards ...happy-shooting...Take care all.....stay safe....AND VOTE !!!! ...Peace -out Racer-X

Hi to all. I'm new to this forum so I'm sorry if I'm late putting in my .02. The difference in the M&P 9 pro is more than the barrel length. There is also a fibre optic front sight, different rear sight and my favorite, a 2# lighter trigger pull.
I've had mine ordered for over a month now and should receive it within 2 weeks. I'll let you know how it shoots! I can't wait!!!!!!
I also shoot Kel-Tec p3at, Ruger Sp 101 357 mag, Smith model 17 357mag, Colt pocket pistol in 32 acp, etc,etc...
If anyone has received their M&P 9 pro, please give me a report!
Glad to be a member of the forum:-)

Hello ....(showmebob.). I too am new to this forum....so...in my own humble beginings....welcome. I must say that I'm ..ALMOST jealous about the difference between the regular 'full size' 9 and the pro. I had already purchased mine before I had heard that there was a "pro" model available. Though I would'nt have wanted the longer barrel,....because of concealment'...BUT...the lighter trigger pull might have been of interest to me....though the regular 9 already has "what I would consider " a relatively light smooth pull to begin with. If you don't mind me askin? what did or are you payin for it ?.... I'm very pleased with mine...and I'm sure you should be pleased with yours also...reguardless of the purpose..... protection, plinking,...competition...etc......I'm going on around 5,ooo rounds through mine with only two failure's to fire, which I attribute to the ammo. I read that you also have a Kel-tec 380 as I do also. How do you like it? Feels like a M-80 going off in your hand to me...not fun to shoot ....but...up-close,....will definately put a "hurtin' on somebody in a time "of need"!!.. If you've made any modifications or know of any that make the "K-Tec" more pleasant to shoot......please post it. I don't think there are any....I don't believe it was designed with comfort in mind. .Anyway, ....again...welcome and good luck with the purchase of the S&W M/P 9mm Pro !...keep a post of how it shoot's and your overall impressions....good or bad... ....Peace.....out.......Racer-X.... Hi Racerx
List price on the M&P pro is $758. I'm supposed to get mine for $600. I've been trying to get one for a couple of months now and understand they are starting to ship every couple of weeks.
I will only use mine for fun as I have concealed carry guns already.
I do have a Kel-Tec 380 and love it since I sent it in for warranty repairs. It major broke early (150 rounds) so off it went. After a long wait it was returned with a new slide, barrel and misc. internal parts. Also, they polished the feed ramp.
Long story short, it now eats all ammo (even corroded) without a hiccup. I have 300 rounds through it without cleaning and it's been perfect.
Have you tried the mag extension? That should help you get a grip on it. I can shoot 50 rounds before I notice any discomfort but I don't mind shooting 100 in a session. I use a 2 hand grip for a firm hold. I don't have the extended mag.
Try this for quick aiming. Really, try this, I think you will like it!
Paint the rear sight bright orange and the front one white AND, paint a white line the same width of the front sight from the front sight to the rear sight on the top of the slide.
When you raise up the gun (muzzle slightly high) just point the white line toward the target and lower the muzzle until the line dissapears. Pull the trigger! You gotta try this, it really works. If you don't want to paint a line just yet, get some pinstripping and stick it on for a temporary and go shoot!
Let me know if you try this and how you like it. My LEO buddys all liked it when I let them shoot it. They carry P3AT's for BU.
I'm jealous of you getting to shoot 5,000 through your M&P!
Keep shootin and reportin!

Yeee-Haaa ...Showmebob'...you truly are in tune with my thoughts. I had already painted the rear-sight,,"if you wanna call that groove that" with flourescent orange nail polish...and.....the front ..."bump" with flourescent white. I did that about 2 day's after owning the gun !!! Funny how " good, honest, cocerned shooters think alike...thanks for the "smile". I'm VERY HAPPY with my ""m and p 9mm". It's full size and I got the optional trijicon' night -sights....which I'm very pleased with and work well !! I also dropped in a "DPM" Advanced-recoil-reduction rod in mine...to make it as smooth and 'baddass as possible!!! Again , I use mine as a carry weapon..along with a 'uncle-mikes' sidekick...holster. I v'e been very pleased with the 'overall' package. And as I stated in a previose post the extra barrel length would'nt have been benificial with my desire to carry. I find the trigger pull very smooth and acceptable for self deffence purposes being that I opted for no-safety's,,,mag disconect,,,etc whatsoever....so the extra pull is ...(the last line,,in the point of ...no-return) !!!! Hope you make out well with your new "Smith' and look forward to hearing all about it. As far as the Kel-Tec....well..I live in the Cocoa Beach area so at least if and when something goes wrong I can take it there PERSONALY!!! Iv'e already been to there plant ,I too purchased the finger extentions for the magazines...which help...BUT>>>>still feels like a grenade going off in your hand!!! lol..Thanx for the quick responce to the posts and look forward to hearing good things about the 9 pro!! Hope things work out well for you !! I"m in the market for a 45 acp pistol....thinking about a "GLOCK" ...don't know why/? any OPINIONS ANYONE???? i KNOW ..I LOVE THE S AND W why would I buy a glock? I just don't like purchasing multiple guns, cars ,stereos etc...all from the same manufacturer.!!! Any input would helpful !! anyone ? a 40 or 45 acp..thanx......Racer-X

Hey Racerx
How bright are the trijicon' night -sights? A couple of the ranges that I've shot at are not dark but too dark for my old eyes to see iron sights well.

Showmebob.....With reguards to the "trijicon" night sight's they work great. They don't require any external light or battery's for recharging etc...and are guarenteed for up to about 12 years. They have different colors , like orange and i believe...a white...though they say that the green holds it's "glow"...year-wise...the longest. The M/P 9 I purchased came with the green which I think is the standard if you choose them when purchasing. I would have chosen the green anyway as I prefer that color over orange....and as Iv'e been told...they say "green' last's the longest. In compltete darkness they light up beautifully... almost magical.....you can very easily line-up and site a target or sillouette with confidence....and when in daylight or inside lighting situations they just appear as natural "white-dotted" sights. Keep in mind, they are not a laser nor do they project light on a target..but they do glow amazingly well!! I paid @$560.00.TOTAL !! for my m/p/(9). BUT that's with tax ..AND the additional $90.00 for the night-sights option. The gun without the site's was selling for @$439.00...tax not included. The darker the external light source is, in comparison to the weapon,.....the more they appear to glow. The gun dealer I purchased the m/p from allowed me to take it into the restroom ..light's out...so I could see how "they" ..the sight's looked before purchasing. Nice People there...I highly recomend them to anyone in the FLorida area of Cocoa Beach. ( B and H Gun Rack ) Merritt Island Fl. They have a web site and handle alot of the surrounding law-enforcement needs. GREAT PRICES!! It was cheaper to buy the gun with them already optioned as apposed to purchasing them through "trijicon'---more expensive...AND then having to mount them also $$ ??? I'm very pleased with them but also....hope I never have to use them on anyone. Keep in mind once they wear down...they're done...they have to be replaced...and that..YOU pay for. Sorry for the long-wind-ed reply....Hope this help's any future decisions your making. Keep us posted on your Pro-(9)....peace out..Racer-X......Quote ' "Experience is a wonderful thing,....... Smith & Wesson Pistols for sale at Buds, S&W

They have the fullsize 9mm for under $500

About the night sights, I think green rear sights and an orange/yellow front sight is wicked

Well guys. After about a 3 month wait I finally got my m&p9 pro yesterday! I decided to clean it tonight and have a short range session tomorrow. The trigger pull on my scales is 5#. I started to clean it and found strange marks inside the barrel. I cleaned it thoroughly and the marks remained. It appears that when the barrel bore was drilled that a shaving got caught and scratched the bore for about 1/4 inch on the rifling. This is the 2nd Smith that I have bought with a bad barrel. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice I'm really dissapointed. After all the effort to get the gun and now to have a faulty barrel..... I'm almost wishing I would have gone with another choice.

Yeah, it's a hassle, but smith will replace it and any other part for the rest of your life.

The warranty papers included with the Pro claim a one year warranty period. I have never heard of anyone with Smith warranty work problems though. I hope that is just the "official period".
I called Smith and they are sending me a shipping label for the return. At this point it looks like I won't be shooting till Oct.
I hope to give a report then about how much I really love the gun.......

I called Smith and they said to return the barrel to them. About 3 weeks after doing so I received the new barrel today. I cleaned it, installed it and headed to the range.
I can't say this is the best semi 9 out there ( I haven't shot them all!) but I would bet my last bullet it is one of the best for me.
This gun fits me well with the small grips. My first shot was 1/2 inch high from 30 feet. The first 30 really tore up the target!
I moved back to the 25 yard line and shot standing with no rest. The winds were gusting moderately so I was suprised when I had 16 hits from 17 shots. Most were well centered.
Next, I tried something I've never done with a semi center fire. Controlled doubles from 7 yards. Only 1 miss!
All but the first 30 shots were at copy paper.
The 9 Pro is the most naturally pointing pistol I've shot. It makes me look a whole lot better than I am.
The trigger pull while nice at 5#s does have a rough spot in it. I hope it will shoot out.
I fired 3 brands of the cheapest ammo I could buy and had no problems with any.
The magizines are a pain to load much past the 12 round mark. I will be purchasing a loading aid.
The fiber optic front sight is nice but not as bright as I'd hoped. The rear sight is black (no dots).
Overall impression, I'm glad I got it, it's a lot of fun, it's accurate and it's worth the $575 I paid for it. I'm happy and that says a lot!

Glad to hear that she shoots great You really can't go wrong with any S&W M&P, at least not for the price.
