I just figured out that i am left eye dominant after all these years. I have been shooting right handed forever. My question is does it really matter what eye dominant you are if one eye is closed while i am aiming? I think it would be pretty hard to switch to lefty shooting after all these years. thanks
My dad also has this problem. He soon learned to shoot left handed when my grandfathers Browning semi auto 12g broke his nose when he was a kid because it was hanging out over the stock while he was looking through his left eye LOL These days he can shoot either left or right handed at will but he mostly shoots left handed - but he wont use a left handed rifle, he says it feels weird because he has shot for so long on right handed rifles. My opinion if what you are doing now works there is no need to change how you shoot.
I have the same issue but don't worry about it, especially with a rifle. If you want to be competitive in trap or skeet, it may be a problem as you really can't keep your dominant eye open.
I learned to close my right eye independently of the left first. I am right handed. I learned to shoot left handed when I got my Daisy BB gun. As I aged and got to shoot the 12ga and the '06 I learned the right hand world of firearms. I have no difficulty shooting lefty or righty regardless of right eye dominance. I just chose to righty as I am right handed and most firearms(as most things) are right handed. Also I often shooot with both eyes open just to confuse things.
I am right-handed but blind in my right eye. I have always shot rifles left-handed and pistols right-handed. I may try the pistols lefty but I don't think I could do rifles righty.
I am right handed left eye dominate and I shoot handguns right handed. Shotguns and rifles left handed. When I was very young I found I had difficulty getting my head down far enough on the stock, it was becasue of my eye dominance. Since High school I have shot long guns left handed.

I must be very lucky,im right handed right eye dominent. But can shoot with both eyes open and turn of my left.I guess it just takes practice.I can shoot left handed left eye but it doesnt feel very comfortable.
If you shoot well with the right and you are left eye dominant then I wouldn't worry about it. With rifles it shouldn't make much difference. Shooting shotguns is where it really matters. I shoot shotguns with both eyes open. I am left eye dominant so I shoot left handed.

If you turkey hunt with a shotgun and deer hunt with a rifle, left eye dominance can be a real advantage. To make a shot to your far right just change the gun to a left handed position instead of all the movement required for a right handed shot. That left eye will look right down the rib or look right through the scope. Try shooting your shotgun at clay pigeons sometime and you'll be surprised you're not as bad as you thought you were. You can actually look down the rib without closing one eye! I'm left eye dominant and shoot right handed but do just fine shooting left. SS
i am right hand right eye, but if i am in a stand i just shoot whichever way is easier without moving a lot, shotguns i can shoot left too don't know if im as good but doesnt feel much different although i almost always shoot right...practice both ways you will be fine...
I have no trouble shooting a rifle or shotgun being left eye dominant and right handed. My trouble is with or rather was with handguns until I learned to tilt my head and use my left eye while shooting righthanded.
thanks for all the replys guys. I will probably just continue to shoot right handed because i have been doing it fine this way forever. it was just weird to figure out that i was left eye dominant.
