Wink sks-m sks-d Is there a difference?

Is there a difference in the sks-m and sks-d? Other than the factory stock that is. Is one better than the other? Is one rarer than the other? I personally like the stock better on the "D". Opinions wanted.

Model D rifles used military style stocks and had bayonet lugs (although some were imported minus bayonet, and a small few minus the lug in order to meet changing US import restrictions). Model M rifles had no bayonet lug and used either a thumbhole or monte-carlo style stock. Both model D and M used AK-47 magazines and as a result had no bolt hold open feature on the rifle.

The D's are far more rare because they were only in production for 7 months before the pre ban of the Regan administration. Im told only 5000 were made, but that not all of them are in true form because some got caught up in customs and were stripped of their bayonets and other parts. The M's were in production for a much longer period of time which means their production #s are a great deal higher. As with many things, supply and demand determines a given products rarity and $$$ value. D's are blue booked at over $1000, but in reality one could charge what he wanted to being that he probably would not have any competition.
