Gun cleaning instructions

So, I have this rifle. I don't have the opportunity to shoot it that frequently, so I have only cleaned it a couple of times. The little instructional booklet that came with the gun told me how to clean it. It said to always push the little cleaning rod thingy (sorry, I don't know any of the terminology) through the barrell only the direction that the bullet goes. Is this actually something I have to follow? What would happen if I didn't?

The muzzle end of the bore is a very critical part of the gun for accuracy. They are concerned you don't damage the edge of the muzzle bore. Some don't believe in pulling the brush or patch back in after it starts to exit from the muzzle.

Ron Speak Truth!

Do yourself a favor. Buy a bore snake. Saves time and saves the muzzle.

+2 -- Boresnakes work fine, or the Otis cleaner has a flexible cable.

+3 on Boresnakes...On pull thru from the breech = 161 Patches. No way it can ever damage the Bore or Crown. I love them !!! It makes a barrel Shine!

Wow, bore snake definitely seems the way to go. It's kind of annoying having to unscrew that little brush thingy just to pull the rod back out of the barrel. But it's good to know that you actually should only go one way befor eI start damaging my rifle.

And to answer why your not suppose to push the rod in, is because you'll push all the gunk into the the gun, not out the end of the barrel. And X100 on boresnakes.
