| The Right of the People to keep and bear Nerf Toy gun generates lockdown at Alfred | democratandchronicle.com | Democrat and Chronicle shall not be infringed. Nerf guns cause a campus shutdown in New York. Now, I know we here are all familiar with firearms and many of us can tell make and model at a glance or give it a good guess. But what conceivable excuse does any human being in the world have to confuse a Nerf gun with an actual firearm? Cowards. I'm really, really, desperately tired of the fearmongering culture at this point. - Coeloptera |

| I'd hate to see what they would do if a kid showed up with one of those Super-Soakers with the back-pack reservior... LMAO And, I gotta hand it to one of the commenters on that news report: Quote:

| Well folks, I'm pretty sure that now a memo will be sent out to all, students and facility alike, to probably not just this University, but too all educational facilities in New York, stating along the lines that no, type of firearm, toy or otherwise will be allowed on any school property. Let's face it, they WILL blow this out of proportion.

| Lost in the Ozone Again ![]() | Well, we're still going to allow cops and robbers here........ We used to have this big funnel (powered by 3 men -- 2 to hold the elastic tubing strings and one to draw the funnel back and let it go--the folks majoring in bureaucracy could help too by telling the shooter where to aim) -- called it a "gazoorcher" -- fired water balloons, etc--had a 100 - 200 yard range. Great fun shooting from frat house to frat house. Guys would deflect the incoming balloons with brooms and shovels. Never hurt anyone. Like I said: FREE PEOPLE DON'T "DO" LOCKDOWNS

| The year I was a rifle instructor at a rich kids' camp, we rigged funnelators out of funnels and surgical tubing, mounted to tomato stakes driven into the ground. We could drop a one pound water balloon into a 36 inch diameter circle at 100 yards with practice. Do you suppose the BATFE would classify a funnelator as a destructive device? |

| Lost in the Ozone Again ![]() | Thanks, Baser--I find the terminology and concept disturbing, expecially when I hear it in the news. We were pretty good in college--Maybe not to the 3' standard (this might have been partly due to the ingestion of many beverages by the teams..........)--what we lacked in terms of accuracy we made up for in terms of rapid fire. Could get the ladies t-shirts damp with the water frag pattern at least and knock over the opposition's keg Long time ago, though.

| They really should stop making all those bright blue, orange, and yellow Smith and Wesson guns. I bet my bottom dollar that is where all the confusion is coming from.... |

| Lost in the Ozone Again ![]() | LOL -- yeah....think it's a technical term......went to an engineering school in the east and that's what we called it there. Then I learned it's easier to be a pilot than an engineer

| Senior Member | I think they oughta stop making those toys that look like REAL guns! I can pretty well tell the difference between the toys and real guns, but those airsoft replicas look too much like the real thing to tell the two apart, til you get closer.
