If you are asking about using a full length sizing die to neck size, here's the way I set it up:

Find an empty case at the range or from another rifle your shooting buddy owns, you want one that WON'T chamber in your gun. Set your sizing die so that the shell holder is about 1/8" from touching the bottom of the die. Size the case, then try to chamber it in your rifle. If it still won't fit, screw the sizing die another half turn into the press and repeat. Follow these steps until the action will snugly close, then screw the die another quarter turn into the press and lock the ring.

I actually do this with all my rifles, it insures long case life and prevents head separations. It's especially important with belted cases.

I do just as 454PB except I use the case fired from my gun. It of course will fit since it matches the chamber from which it was fired. The difference being I make a visual check of where the resizing die is making contact on the case neck, I set it just above the the top of the shoulder/base of the neck.

That is the right way to neck resize with full length dies. You only need to go from 1/2 to 3/4ths of the neck.Just enough to hold the bullet. If you size a case that wont chamber down until it will chamber, you are,in effect, full length resizing.Mainly because if you hit the shoulder and push it out,you must keep going until you push the shoulder back in. sam.

Talking

Well thanx for the info...Im using my cases so I kinda think the shoulder should be ok...Im doing this with a zip spindle die and only went 1/4 of the way down but I got to wondering if i mignt stress the neck too much
in that one spot. So last nite I took it down to the shoulder. Maby I should just spring for those collet dies. I marked the die as to how far down in the press I want to go and marked the locking nut also. So far they line up. Before you ask I did the marking with a sharpie instead of scribing and welding the nut to the die with 7018 and 20 oz of locktite.
