Instead Centerfire has destroyed a 91/30 by cutting the barrel back by quite a bit. Hopefully, it's more recycling a semi-shotout barrel than destruction. It would be a shame if some of those 91/30's were collectables.
The plastic front blade sight is a nice touch.
Better just to buy and M38 and sporterize it. At least you can return it to original collectable condition down the road.
M38 = $90
Scout scope and mount = $72
ATI Camo Stock = $90
or ATI Black stock = $50
Total $212 to $252 Still a bargain and you get the original iron sights.
Just a thought.

i wouldnt ruin a M38 by drill and tapping it for a mount that may not fit, buy yourself a M91/30 and PE that rifle. Buy scout mount for your M38 and do that.
Maybe it's because (to the best of my knowlege) the P series scope was never mounted on carbines. On the other hand none of the carbines were set up for any type of scope, as sniping was not exactly their forte'.
So that doesn't mean it shouldn't be done, and it would probably look pretty cool, but "you'll put your eye out".
I kinda like the LER scope having a 9 inch eye-buffer zone when shooting Bulgarian HB.

ok....i forget the exact model numbers....M39, M91/59, somewhere along there....they were cut-down 91/30's....I dunno if they have the built-in dovetails like a 91/30....if they do, then grab one of them demons, and scout the monster....if not, then go buck wild with whatever kind of mount you wanna get for it....Geo, tisk tisk tisk, dontcha know that the 'Blackeyenitis' syndrome is what happens when an individual suffering from 'Mosinitis' contracts the 'Opticitis' disease? Geez....figured ppl would've noticed the face on the smily:
My opinion is you should have a machinist or gunsmith drill and tap your receiver and go that way. I've never liked the way the scout mount looks except with shorter rifles with a red dot. Also scout mount eliminates your irons. I'm wanting to have my SKS receiver drilled and tapped when I get the green.
