With this in mind, do you think it would be possible to get a different “upper” receiver and/or barrel to convert this a larger pistol cartridge?
I was thinking something of roughly the same length (to fit the magazine well) like a .40 S&W or .357SIG…

That's a good question. I just stumbled across this new rifle this morning, and I like what I see. In the reviews that I've read there seem to be very few issues with it and GSG are correcting those with their next batch. Besides reviews, have you talked to anybody who has or has fired one? Supposedly GSG also has .22 versions of other rifles such as the AR/M4 and SIG. I have not been able to find any of these yet.

I saw a fellow shooting one at the range this weekend. It impressed me as he burned through mag after mag of bargin box Federal without a jam.

i bought the gsg5p pistol and i love it shot 500 rds thru it no jams or mis fires usung cci mini mags i would recomend this gun to everyone it's really a fun gun to shot i'm in the orocess of filling out atf form 1 so i can put a stock on it for a sbr.

HK doesnt even make this gun, GSG does it is a german AIrsoft company. there good guns, but NOTHING off a real MP5 is interchangable in them.
