Question Trigger pull on 91/30

My 91/30 has a really stiff trigger, even without the bolt in. Is there any way to lighten the trigger pull without taking it to a gunsmith?

do you have another Mosin to compair it to? Because I think they are all hard just the way they are made. Maybe yours is normal, or maybe it does have a problem.

there's lots of things you can do to lighten the pull. do a search on trigger pull here and on the surplusrifle.com forum. lots of neat info out there. i shimmed mine to get a lighter pull. length of pull was reduced more than i like though. i just got a couple extra triggers so i can play around with maybe getting a ball in there and maybe an adjustable trigger.

Huber makes some very nice trigger systems adjustable . Not sure I'm ready to spend $70+ on my $100 rifle yet. Some day though. I was able to shim the sear spring. Didn't give a much lighter pull but it did give me a shorter pull which helps too.

i hear ya! that's why i bought extra triggers. seventy bucks is what my "ivan" m44 cost.i'm gonna drill and tap one and run a screw with a rounded end to make a "poor mans huber" if i can figure out a way to get a good bearing surface in there, that would be even better!

is your trigger stiff, or long, in Mosin's stiff and long generally come in one package.

I got lucky and found a trigger that was just a little long(mines an ex-sniper, so the trigger aint too bad)

I've felt trigger's that are longer and others that take a little effort to pull them off(heres your stiff part). If its both, you might want to take it apart and clean it out all the way, cosmoline has invaded your trigger assembly, a wire brush will help with this.

Hope this helps.

It was both hard to pull and a long pull. I messed with it a while and figured what was making it that way was the sear spring. When you remove the spring the trigger flaps around freely. So I shim the spring and get a bit lighter pull and a shorter one as well.

Sure, if thats what works, go ahead, I just know from experience that cosmo can be your worst enemy when working on a mil-surp rifle. its even worse when its hardened on.

Yeah. I have already boiled the parts and cleaned them well. But yes I agree Cosmo is both a good and bad thing.

I have the receiver and barrel are out of the rifle right now so I can refinish the stock. Pardon my ignorance but what would I be looking for? Cosmo?

I would like to have a nice shooting rifle, I know trigger pull helps but has any body bedded the barrel and does it help?

No cosmo And everything looks ok to my untrained eye. It seems to me that the sear spring is really tuff.

Is the sear showing any sign of wear? if not I think you are ok soe of my mosins have a longer pull before firing than others it just takes some getting use to the rifle
