Discussed this across the street while back. I think supply and demand will have a big "cause and effect" on ammo prices but I also feel the government will have a bigger "cause and effect" on the pricing.

I have coffee with one of our State Senators quite often. He's a shooter with a pretty good collection. The discussion of gun control has been a big item with the elections coming up. The contention is in our group is that if certain people are able to get elected we will be able to buy all the guns we want, it's the ammo that's going to be the new "gun control".

The Senator indicated he'd heard that there was a pretty heavy tax bill being proposed by a couple US Congressman. As much as a 51% levy/tax on all ammo sold in the US. All ammo purchases would be registered/tracked just like gun purchases. Pretty soon I'm going to have to go get another safe for the ammo.

It is crazy that you can do a google search on cheap ammo and about a year ago people were whining about the price of ammo being 100.00 for 1,000 rds.

That price has doubled now. I just bought 500rds of silver bear and brown bear and it was about 220.00

It is my understanding the price of ammo is going up because of the increased demand for ammo for the war in Iraq. That is causing the price of lead copper etc to go up. But on the other hand everything is going up, thanks to the gas prices. I got a rifle in 2000 for $236.00 new. The last time I saw one like it recently, the price was $1800.00 used.

The ninth amendment of the Constitution of the United States says you cannot deny a part of somthing to deny a given right. In other words you cannot deny ammo because that would negate the 2nd amendment for your right to bear arms. It doesnt mean they wont do it. After all in WWII they put americans into concentration camps, denying their rights. And the gun grabbers are doing all they can to deny our rights as guns owners. You have to remember they charged in and tried to take our guns. They found they could not do that. Now they are trying to take little steps. Eat away our gun rights a little at a time. We have to do all we can to not let them.

Correct JAC. That is the argument for carrying handguns et al useing the Ninth Amendment. However we were discussing ammo. And in that respect I am correct about the Ninth Amendment.

I have to disagree! What about things like video game consoles, ie. Xbox or whatever? Price goes up due to demand (it may be short-lived of course, just until supply catches up or demand drops).

High demand and short supply both drive prices up! I don't know how anyone could think otherwise...?

I reload but always keep at least 100rds per weapon loaded. I have my brass stockpiled with at least 200 cases to 1000 cases per weapon with the exception of the Wbys. For those, I keep 100. and the 600NE I have 20.

Ya me too. I keep at least 5000 rounds if its a shooter. Rifles like the arisakas etc I only keep a few hundred rounds.
