The following was brought to my attention:

The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act which was passed in the House of Representatives is now heading to the Senate and is slated for passage.

The bill will assemble two bodies to identify and recommend methods of dealing with those who are too radicalized or deemed enemies of the state.

The Southern Poverty Law Center says that membership in hate filled fringe groups is on the rise – groups that advocate genocide and armed revolution. This is cause for very deep concern.

Sooooo issue two handguns to every good citizen with their own home and require them to know how to use it and have it available at all times. One for carry, one for home defense. Problem solved.

the issue is going to be deciding who's a good citizen and who's not though. A simpler solution is to issue 2 handguns to everyone and train them how to use and carry them. It won't take long before the sicko's, perv's, and insane are weeded out.

I don't know if I'm joking or not...

That would cause innocent deaths rather quickly. A good citizen would be someone with no felonies on record and is currently owning or renting a home.

Sounds very broad based to me. And maybe an easy way to classify all of us friendly people here as radical gun owners ..

I don't think they have enough cops or prisons to enforce anything like this.

I agree Mitch ... completely.

It gives you an idea that even the politicians realize they are at the end of a very short string right now...

They have plenty of cops, don't forget the signing of the deal with Canada to provide troops for "civil unrest" in the U.S. .. And jails.. they will shoot first if it comes to that
and cart off whatever is left to a camp of un-disclosed location..

So now we can be labeled "enemies of the state" and jailed. Didn't they used to do that in Russia and China ?

I think we should have the option here to "always" be able to delete any Posts or Threads we make here, that could come back to haunt us.
That is serious legistration folks that could cause someone here kidding around to get in trouble.

Yes, along with incarceration for insanity.

Wonder what these "homegrown terrorists" would have to say about this...

Our right to Habeus Corpus has already been suspended for anyone our government refers to as "Enemy Combatant". Erosion of constitutional rights is the beginning of Totalitarianism. Pretty soon we'll be sent to a Gulag in North Dakota for expressing these anarchistic views on the internet. Spies are everywhere. Lions, tigers and bears oh my!

I must agree. After reading it it seems too broad and easy to categorize.

Remember the 60s? Infiltrating "radical groups" that had no intention of doing anything violent?

Version 2.0, I think.

It's very difficult to draw the line on true, dangerous radicalization and real, honest-to-goodness outrage at the crap the government tries to pull sometimes.

You know, crap like this.

So, anyone else regretting that whole "enemy combatant" designation yet? Just wait. It will be tried on Americans sooner or later. Then we'll see how much the populace at large is willing to take. Why do I fear that our current culture will act more like the average German in 1939 than the average colonist in 1776? Just keep your head down and don't think about it too much.

What you get . . . .

. . . . as the true legacy of Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld.

Warrantless invasion of American's personal lives, curtailment of freedoms, attacks on the Bill of Rights, and vague definitions of criminals who have yet to commit a criminal act.

Would that in some way we could bring back Thomas Jefferson as he is needed now more than in the election of 1800!!!!!
