Yeah, for now I think that's what I''ll do as well. Now that I have the c&r I will be gettinga nice Yugo sks, and it will need to be fed. But for the reloading, for now I will stick with .223.

It depends. I bought bulk bear .308 and it was cheaper than reloading just because of bi-metal cartriges. But....... you cannot reload berdan primers. So in the long run it will be cheaper to reload if the cases last that long. Also the ammunition you reload will be 100 times cleaner. Brass is the only thing that makes it expencive.

unless you involve yourself in group buys it is not cheaper to reload for shotgun.

Reloading for 12 gauge...average cost per round comparison...?

I never knew that. I guess that's why I've seen so few people that reloaded for shotgun and those that did seemed.....well......different.

Way cheaper than reloading? Where please? You mean it's cheaper even after you have brass to reload and only need bullets/powder/primers?

.310 bullets for a 7.62x39 will run about $.145 apiece after s&h if you buy in lots of 2k or more, powder at about $.055 per round (if you don't pay for shipping), and you have a $.20 round. Just adding in primers puts you over that level, let alone the cost of your equipement (even amortized over thousands and thousands of rounds, it still costs) and time. You normally can't beat the price of buying 1K rounds at $175-195 delivered ($.175-.195 per round).

Soviet bloc surplus ammo is the only rifle ammo that I know of that's cheaper to buy than to reload. Even if someone gave you all of your equipment and you had no shipping costs to get the supplies.

That may well change in the next few years, though.

I was thinking about getting back into reloading, quit almost 20 years ago. I'm horrified at the cost of jacketed bullets today. It is indeed cheaper to buy large lots of surplus or cheap ammo. I haven't even looked at powder or primers, seems like when I was buying them primers were $10 per 1000, powder was about $10 per pound. Have those changed much? I'm afraid to look.

Edit: I just checked lead bullets also for pistol, thinking I might load for 9mm.......why bother? In some cartridges, it does look like reloading for economy is no longer relevant. When did this sad state of affairs happen?

I'd search the 'net for prices of components, do the math, and compare to the price of Wolf ammo.

Once you learn to do that, you will never need to ask for help for basic math problem solving again.

Well, powder at least hasn't gone up that much, only doubled in price, but bullets, both jacketed and lead, are ridiculous. For the little shooting I do I'll just buy 100 round boxes of Winchester 9mm for $18.50, a box of 100 jacketed bullets for reloading cost more than that. Jebus.
