There is a lot more too it, but you might also want to look up photodisintegration.

If you add compression to the fire, you can start a process to create gamma photons. This process can in turn be used to extract nuclei from the photons and you can actually create more magnesium.

The science is based upon research into the life and death of stars.

Does this create matter? If so, we should do it with copper and lead and bring down ammo prices

It can create heavy metals.

The problem is that the resulting force is near the power of a micro-singularity or 'black-hole' for short. So, I don't think we want to play too much with it.

Combustion? No. That takes oxygen.

Fusion? Sure. Why wouldn't it?

I mean, I live in Vegas, about as far west as you can get. Damn things are zipping around like fireflies up there. Makes it hard to sleep without the blinds drawn.

I do agree there is something strange going on around Phoenix, but it really is hard to say what it is. My first guess would be government aircraft. But who knows for sure. I am sure there are a ton of AF bases around the area since normally deserts make good run ways.

Maybe it is someone looking for a crash sight...

Fusion wasn't the "Burn" that I had in mind, but I guess that works
