See theres another reason...collectability. I see more and more web sites that used to have a ton of Mosins. Now you look there and they say Not in stock. And the price is going up because of the limited import. So get em now while they are relativily cheep.

I remember when you could buy them for 39.95. It wasnt that long ago. At that time the sks' were 50.00-69.95. The m-1 carbine was 179.95. This was pre brady bill.

The Mosins are right in between a .308 and a 30-06 cartridge-wise.

Try 7.62x54r.net website for all data relating to Mosin.
They even have a joke page
Talk about history. These things were first built for the Czar's army in the late 1800's. Then served int he Russian revolution, WWI, WWII, Korea, Afganistan, Vietnam and many places and wars you never have heard of. The website above has a map showing all the places in the world the Mosin has been used. Truly amazing.
Remember, the M44 carbine is designed to fired with the bayonet extended. Shoots true to point of aim that way. Also raises eyebrows at the range with that big spike bayonet sticking out. TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT!!

One other thing about Mosins. The top snipers in the world used a Mosin. You can check out the thread I posted in the Mosin Forum - So you want to be a Sniper?

I've been wanting one for a while and this "damn website that makes you want more crap" as my girlfriend puts it was the last straw. Money order goes out tomorrow, should have it next week, along with 200 203gr. Silver Bear SP. Oh well, maybe the M70 will cool off some now

I'm sure there are guys in Korea, VietNam, Germany, etc who have a U.S. GI's gun in their closet as well. | I've never understood some American's facination with "Black Rifles" such as the M-16/AR's for field work and customizing, but do get it if they use them in competition. I have held and shot them in the military. They are what they are, they do their job when properly applied, but they hold no facination for me.
Take that failure to understand, and increase it 10x when I see those that desire any AK/SKS, or Mosin. FOR ANY APPLICATION. Cheap, bulk made, Russian Military crap. Tough? No doubt! Reliable? They were made to be! Cheap? Yep, and there's a reason! If you love them or "black rifles" it's your right to own and use one, but don't try to sell me that I'll love them because they're "cheap" and "reliable". My Rem 700 is cheap enough, and very reliable. I'll take it. If I want cheaper, I'll go with a Tikka T-3 Lite.
And I freely admit that my perception of these Russian POS's is skewed by the fact that EVERY time I've seen on at the range it was being toted by some guy that is always wearing some form of BDU, if not fully decked out in BDUs, usually with mulitple tattoos, smoking Camels, driving a beat up P/U, and slinging lead down range as fast as he can pull the trigger while raining brass on anybody near by then commenting on the "firepower" or how they deer hunt with it because it gives them quick second, third, and fourth shots.
Now that ought to open up a can of worms!
