That's the trouble with such collections. These poor guns just sit and moulder away on the racks, collecting dust, with nobody to put a few downrange and grin... I'd rather have a collection of old "closet queens," some guns Grand-Uncle Earl last shot 45 years ago, in hard-to-find calibers, and clean them up and obtain ammo from somewhere and just go out and shoot the hell out of them. I'll bet you they'd just brighten right up and hold their barrels up proud!

That's my idea of a collection: WORKING guns!

Thumbs down

Collections are just that and shooters are just that! NO you don't shoot collectables, but yes you can collect shooters - There is a Great difference!
I'll bet that you would also enter a nice 55 Corvette in the demolition derby if you had one!

These photos are over a year old. The owner of the collection died and it was auctioned off about 2 months ago. Most of the FAs were operable, but there were a few dewats.

I am the same way with my baseball cards, comic books, and vinyl records. I read them, handle them, and play them all the time. If I had a gun that was a collectible, I would definitely shoot it. If I have expensive whiskey I drink it.

To me, if it just sits there doing nothing it has no value. I take pretty damn good care of my things. Now, there are some exceptions. Some of my comics and other collectibles I have read once, then sealed and never touched again.

Whoever had this collection shot some of them at least. There is a shooting gallery right there in that pic. In my experience with collectors is they always have some NIB they are not going to shoot. They bought them for investment not shooting. However they always have shooters to have fun with.

Military firearms are increasing in value faster than even gold is. You can invest in milsurp firearms and make more money than you can investing in the stock market. I just sit here and laugh at the people buying old rifles and messing up the collectability of them. But like I always say it just makes mine worth more.
